Hi, when I plug in my headphone son the front panel, I still get sound from my speakers. It's weird because on my othe rcomputers once you plugged in the headphones the speakers would not make a sound. Also, as I turn down the volume on my headphones, using the volume control located on the headphones, the sound on my speakers increases. So does anyone know how to make it so that when, I plug in my headphones the speakers go into mute? Thanks.

it probably depends on what kind of sound card you have in order to figure out what to do...try googling your sound card model with the word headphone and see what you get

First thing I'd suggest is to reinstall the sound card driver and see if this helps. Next, if you have access to another set of headphones I'd try them to ensure that it's not a problem with your current headphone minijack to speaker connection. BTW please clarify for me if you plug into a port in the front of your PC or into the speakers. I know you said front panel but is this the port on your CD/DVD ROM, the speakers or some other port. Sometimes the minijack may be faulty and this can possibly occur,(I guess). What you've described is certainly uncommon and though I've never had this particular problem, I've had headphones in which 1 speaker doesn't work when I plug it in my speakers but both work fine when I plug it in my mp3 player. Here's another idea. Unplug your speakers and plug the headphones directly into the speaker port on your soundcard and vary the volume control on the headphones to see if it goes up when you increase it or vice versa. If it works then the problem lies with the headphone to speaker interface, if you plug into speakers. If it doesn't, then I'd start to look at the headphones assuming that the speakers are presently working well with the sound card, so that when you change the volume with either hardware or software it works appropriately

Ok, I just realized that you have another thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/263963 concerning your front panel audio/mic so that answers my question. Could it be that whatever connection you've made may be responsible for what you're now experiencing with your headphones.

have you checked the sound and audio devices section of the control panel? There might be an option to check for muting speakers for headphone play. I doubt its a faulty jack, if it was it probably wouldn't work at all. There must be a way under the drivers software to disable it, so start by checking the control panel...

I'll try looking in the Control Panel right now. I don't think this is from the headphones because they worke don my old computer and even muted the same speakers I have on this computer now. I also believe there should be some kind of option in Windows. I'll check right now. :D. Thanks for all you rhelp.

Well, I couldn't find anything there either related to the subject. And JAMEZBOND, I don't think the jack is fauly or else it wouldn't play music at all and my microphone wouldn't work yet they do. :D.

Yeah, it does. And also when I plug the headphones in the speakers still work but are a little bit lower volume. And then when I unplug teh headphones it goes back to normal volume.

okay knowing that I'm pretty sure I can tell you whats going on. I assume that you're plugging your headphones into a front panel audio jack? If the sound from the speakers is lower when you plug your headphones in, then that means that the audio from the front panel is connected in parallel with the main output to the speakers. Some motherboards have a jumper pin next to the connections on the board for the audio panel, where you can select to cut off the audio to the main speakers once a device is connected to the front. What brand/model is your mobo??

I think I might be able to fix this if I don't short the JR1 jumper. I'll try it now and come back with the results.

Well, I tried it and apparantly it didn't work. This small problem is becoming such an annoyance. What is th epoint of using headphones if sound is going to come out of the speakers while your using them?

yeah that sucks man, sorry I'm not much help, but it seems like we pin-pointed the problem. Only other thing I could suggest is to maybe do another google search with your mobo and audio in the search function, there might be a forum out there that deals with this issue for your specific mobo. Might be a long shot, but I've suprised myself at which I can find googling...

Yeah, I did try searching google for things like "mute speakers headphones plugged in" and thing slike that but didn't find anything. I guess I'll keep trying things until I get it or someone else here on the forums knows the cause of the problem. Thanks for your help and trying though. :D.

Hey Spider just getting back to you. I'm sorry if I confused you. I realize that Djscoop made a valiant attempt and his expertise here definitely exceeds mine. Sorry I can't help more. Lucky for you I hate not being able to finish something I've started, so I'll do a little snooping myself and see if I can come up with anything useful to add. Here's another idea, in the event that Ddp doesn't join in here soon you could probably PM him. He might be able to help you.

Ok thanks for teh help. Yea I got an update for you guys. I tried removing the JR1 and JL1 jumpers on the motehrboard to see what would happen. Well what happened is the speakers stopped working completely but when I plug in the headphones only the left side works. This is really weird.
