I don't currently have this problem, right when I hit record, it starts recording. I have not yet upgraded to 8x, but am scared to because I have read all the posts here and some people have had 5 sec to 30 second delays after hitting record.
My friend has the Emerson recorder too, and hers taes 30 seconds to even start recording...
I just wanted to know if upgrading is the problem...

    Thanks,
    :)

From what I understand, most of the set top recorders have a 'lag' time when you go to record. What I do with my LiteOn is, before the program I want to record begins, I hit record. As soon as the machine starts to record, I pause it. This way it will record instantly when I want it to. If you're happy with the recording quality of your Emerson, keep it.

On my Sony, it actually recommends you hit the 'Record Pause' button first, then hit it again to start recording. Don't know if you have this on your recorder.
