what is the opinion here of just how much video can be placed on a DVD before one starts seeing loss in quality? for example, Lord of the Rings runs just about 3 hours...is it best to split this up to 2 DVDrs or is 3 hours a safe time length to place onto one DVDr? as DVDrs are now under $1, that may answer my question, but wonder if that is the need. thanks in advance....dan
4.4GB can be written to a DVD +/- R(W) safely without freezing or pixelating. Lord of the rings can be compressed to a DVD without that much loss in quality. Use DVD Shrink in Re-Author mode to achieve the best results. And yes, DVDs can be bought for less than $1 (£0.70).
When I did the LOTR movies, I was able to get each 3 hour flick onto one dvdr with little or no loss of video quality using DVD2One. However, Oriphus remarked that when he tried it (not sure what he compressed with), it didn't have very good quality so he re-did it onto 2 discs. He uses a 60" widescreen and I use a 36", so the size of the TV you view your movies on is sumthin u must take into consideration when compressing. My 2 cents
