    Hi,

I'd like to run a test and burn DVD-R with session left open, in order to see whether my standalone divx player Philips 642, will be able to read the divx avi files from such DVD.

I know for sure 642 was able to read files from open sessioned CD's, which was very convenient for me, just adding the files to CD-R's as I wanted.
Now I'd like to repeat the same with my new DVD burner, LG4163b.

However, Nero 6 does not provide an option to 'leave session open', nor there is a option to burn DVD 'track at once' (it is greyed), which should imho result in dvd left with opened session.

I tried multisession dvd burns, but such burns as expected result in only the first session visible on standalone 642. Therefore hoping for more luck with open sessons.

If anyone knows on Nero 6 option to do it, or any other dvd burning sw, please comment...

    Thanks,

you'll find that your problem is due to not all players bing able to properly read discs that aren't finalised or 'closed'

pls post LAST section of your Nero log, which is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar

I checked the filelog history , but unfortunatly , last night i was recording some audio cd-rs , and it looks like the data from past
dvd-rs logs are gonne away ... And i wouldnt like to burn another DVD-R multisession dvd , because I already spend away 6 dvd-rs without sucess to read multiple sessions on 642k player phillips or another old Pc dvd players .

By the way , heres the pic of what going on :

Can't see the pic as I'm replying via my handheld so will look at in the morning as I'm retiring for the night. Anyway, what I was gonna say is you can do 'simulation burns' which go thru the motions with a ank disc and don't write to the discs, and appends to the logfile..

you're missing the first part of that section of logfile; newer firmware is here but need the first bit of logfile to verify exactly which firmware you need (if at all) - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1973

And there's a few other vital bits of info in that missing section of log..

Nero's trying to book type -R discs, you can't booktype -R. My Nero is set to 'auto' for booktyping and it only booktypes +R, and doesn't try to do -R

most people recommend 4x for movies

    - atapi drivers aren't loaded correctly, try this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

ps that screenshot appears to me to suggest you've put a blank disc in AFTER presing burn so the drive can't detect speed info from the disc - Nero then picks max speed

...unless of course you just did that screenshot without a disc in, to illustrate what you were saying...

1- My firmware version is A-104 . And i think I still dont need to update to A-105 since I dont have any problem with recognition with most of the types medias dvd-rs

And there's a few other vital bits of info in that missing section of log..

2- Humm...I guess , here is the point ...To tell the truth , I didn't used any DVD+R for multisession yet ... I only had used DVD-R if I remember correctly . Because , DVD+R is little hard to find here .But , I will gonna buy some couple of these to do the multisession disk .

3- I did 8X because it was a test . I allways use 4x to burn dvds , because of my limitation of the PC . It is an older Celeron 1.1Ghz ,320RAM .

5- Yes, you right , i was just trying to ilustrate that "problem" with write method box is "gray" .

6- Thanks again for your attention ,patient and the tips . I even didnt knew it about the differences betwen DVD+R and DVD-R types .As I said before , I will gonna buy some couples of dvd+R , and lets see , what wil gonna happens .

    no worries, glad to help.

ok, keep A105 firmware in mind cus at some point you'll buy different media and that's where the firmware comes in....and post that missing bit of logfile.

in the meantime...the line that separates the sections of logfile is like this

I bought some dvd+r medias and burned just one multisession disk . The result was the same :- ( . Only the first session it can be readed in the 642k or other more little older dvd player . When played in the driver recorder 4163b , it shows all sessions . I made 3 sessions ,first two I lefted open to test on 642k and pc dvd player .And the last session I closed the session and the disk .

Here are the log files of these 3 sessions :

for info, don't forget A105, especially now you're trying different media... - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1973

    - atapi drivers still aren't loaded correctly, did you try this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm if you tried that, it couldn't have worked, so let's try it the scary way (be very careful in regedit!) -

    - too old, you've gone back to a much older version than you had before.. update to latest, 6.6.0.16

    - yup, Nero isn't detecting the burner properly

    - you need to close more programs down prior to any burns to free up more memory
