I can't play .mov files on Windows Media Player or Classic, but I could do until very recently. When I recently installed a codec so I could watch DVDs using Media Player, I remember changing it so Media Player became the default video player, but since then I can't play .mov files; the file my camera produces. I looked at the page on this site for playing .mov files, but I don't want to download and install anything else if possible. I would prefer to just undo making the Media Player the default player - if that is indeed the problem. How do I make Windows Media Classic the default player please? Thank you
Open the settings or preferences in the player of choice. Somewhere there, you find the file associations where you can assign the different file types to the player. Just select the file types you want. In the version of MPC I have installed, it's in file/options/player /formats
Thanks for your reply, but when I open Media Player Classic, it just freezes and I have to End Task. I also don't see MPC in my programs anywhere - I can only open it by right clicking on a video and picking 'Open with MPC'. I'll try installing Quicktime. I was hoping not to as I don't need itunes or other Apple stuff.
Instead of the full quicktime, try quicktime alternative. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm
