hi This is a guide on how to transfer a dvd to dpg format
which you can use on your r4 ds and play it on your moonshell player
which is usally included in the r4 software. Please be patient with this guide
it's worth it in the end you will get amazing results if followed correctly
,sorry about any spelling mistakes or type errors.

    you will need:
    -fancy dvd copy
-free video converter or any converter that converts to avi or mp4 either format will do .
    -dpgtools

To start things off you will need to get the video on to
your computer (hardrive).I will tell you how to get a
dvd to .dpg format.(you dont have to use a dvd but the quality is better)and you get exactly what you want.

You will need a dvd back up programme,i really recommend a programme
called fancy dvd copy (im using a 10 use trial but thats good enough)
and you can just reinstall it to get another 10 use out of it.
So you dont need to buy it.You can get fancy dvd copy from

    http://www.download.com/1770-20_4-0...Name=platform=Windows&filter=platform=Windows

if this link doesn't work for you then simply go to www.download.com then search
fancy dvd copy in the search bar.And download (save it in a easy to find place),when complete
open up fancy dvd copy insert desired dvd to disc tray.

    source is dvd video disc.

destination is hard disk, create a easy to find folder to store your video in.
(There needs to be enough hard drive space to store video)

    copy mode is entire disc.

now push play sybol now wait for it to finish. When complete find the folder you stored it in.

You will now need to convert the video to avi or mp4(wmv does work but its not as good as the
other two). You will need a video converter to do so,
free video converter is a the best i've ever used you can download it at this site
http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html click Free Video Converter 1.4 and download when
its complete click on Free Video Converter select the output path mines C:\Users\example\Desktop
if your name was john and your pc user was john, where it says example it would say john. But
you can change it to be stored anywhere on your pc more simply click on the three ...
to choose where you want the video stored. Now choose what format you want the video
in click output format click Avi for now.Now click add files ,search for the video you
backed up it should be in vts- vob format (object) or wmv/wmp(windows media player) ,try playing
it to make sure it works or its good quality. When choosen click convert video it should take
between half the time of the dvd length or quicker if not be patient. When its complete
you will need to download dpgtools to convert to dpg there is other programes but from my
experience dpg tools is easyier and better quality video fotage.Download dpgtools from this site
http://us.codejunkies.com/mpds/articles/how_to_video.htm .When it completes the download find
where you downloaded it to extract the files, you can use windows for this or winRAR
which can be downloaded from http://www.download.com/1770-20_4-0...Name=platform=Windows&filter=platform=Windows

.Now when it's extracted 3 icons should all have a picture of a 7
and a earth click on the 2nd icon down application which should be 199KB this is because i've
experienced problems with opening dpgtools, you have to use the 2nd icon down because the
other don't work so i don't recommend using them they don't come up with the right opitions
so you don't need to worry about anything but the 2nd icon. The previous link that you
download dpgtools from tells you some infomation on the opitions you should use for
dpgtools but some of them are wrong. In dpgtools click show options to access these opitions.

These are the correct settings for dpgtools

set video aspect ratio to auto detect
Set the Audio bitrate to 64Kb/s
Set the Video width to 256 pixels
Set the Video Bitrate to 256kb/s
Set the Video Framerate to 15fps.
    I use video brightness 110%
    And i use blur 95%
Click the ‘Select’ button to choose your source video. MPG AVI and WMV are all supported inputs.
Click ‘Start’ to begin encoding. You will be asked where you would like to save the video to. Encoding will take from a few seconds to many minutes depending on the length and quality of the source file.

None of this settings have led me wrong. But you can play around with them. But keep in
mind that moonshell only accepts videos in Video Bitrate to 256kb/s and only .dpg format.

Now When your video has converted you insert your r4's micro sd/tf stick
into the usb 2.0 adapter which is then inserted into the pc's
usb drive. Now simply drag and drop straight into micro sd.
Ive created a folder for my dpg videos movies but you dont have to.

Take out micro sd card out of usb adapter and put micro sd card back into
r4 ds.Boot ds which will lead you into the r4 menue , boot moonshell
now find where movie is,click and enjoy.

You have successfully converted a home dvd to dpg format.

Here is a link where you can share dpg movies and download them. http://www.dpghost.com/
Thanks for reading i hope it worked for you.

I personally use DVDshrink to get the flm off the DVD, this allows you to remove all the extras and output it as a single VOB file. Super a free converter will convert this straight to .dpg without the need to convert to .avi first, however i do admit that the quality is not quite as good. But a lot quicker!
