    Read http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ .

The probem, with MPEGs, is that thay are already almost playable, but they belong to a specific TV System (PAL ot NTSC; 25 fps or 29.97 fps).
Therefore, you must detect if they are compliant to your system (usually the 'properties' command of any player maked it possible to detect the type by checking its resolution and/or its framerate = frames per seconds). If it is so, make directly a disc/a DVD ['author' a disc/a DVD] (obviously: a DVD if it is 720x480/576, a SVCD if it is 480x480/576, a VCD if they are 352x240/288 , NTSC/PAL).
It it is not, the mpeg must be encoded in your system. You must have a good encoder, use it well, and spend some time.

Nero can act as an encoder, but it isn't suggested...
