    Not enough information.

What type of file is it? What is the files extension (ASF, AVI, etc)?

It is probably an ASF file then (check the file extension to be sure).
If it is, download a program called ASFtools from www.divx-digest.com and use it to convert the file to AVI.
The AVI file can then be converted to MPEG via TMPGEnc.

I've never run into that problem, myself.
