I ran a recovery console on my computer using my windows XP upgrade cd.I just popped it in and rebooted the computer. The computer will have a black screen and it will say press any key to boot from the CD.Just hit any key.Choose install and then repair on the following screens.I don't know what your exact goal that you are trying to set but I hope that helps.I just reinstalled windows on my computer without losing all my data on my hard drive this way.
