I want to make a DVD demo disc to use in my home theater. I would like to take small clips from a variety of DVDs and edit them in Premiere into a single presentation with soundtrack.

This would only involve short video/audio segments from each DVD, put together as a montage of numerous movie clips.

So far I've used DVD Decrypter and have a couple of folders of vob's from a couple of movies on my HD.

I can't view them, nor do I know how to get them into Premiere where I can view and edit them. What do I need to do and what is the best software for the job?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

First you have to rip these DVD"s with Just One audio Track because more than one will not be Recognized in any DVD authoring Program...You can not edit these Files in Premier because premier will not recognize the AC3 audio in the Vob files and even if it did you would loose Quality when Rendering to a New File because Premier is what we call a Destructive Video editor..What you need is a a Proper Mpeg editor because VOB files are Just basicly Mpeg2 files, The Best Mpeg editor is called "Mpeg2VCR" it is a Frame accurate Mpeg editor that can handle the AC3 audio and there is No quality loss when useing this Type of Editor...accept when useing this Type of editor you can not add Transitions or add Filters but for Cutting and Joining it is a great editor, If you want to use Premier and add Transitions and Filters the VOB files will have to be Demuxed and the AC3 audio decoded to Wav format...If this is what you want to do then let me know and I"ll evplain how to do it...Cheers

    Thank you Minion,

That's very helpful. I'm going to check out "Mpeg2VCR" and will re-post here if I have other questions. I've no idea how to contact you directly (if that's even possible).

    Regards,
    Tiepolo

Well If you want to do Simple Cutting and Pasteing without adding Effects and Transitions then a Proper Mpeg editor Like "Mpeg2VCR" would work great because it can handle the Vob file with it"s AC3 Audio Track and the Output file would not loose any quality From the original Vob file and the rendeing time would be Much faster that if you used an editor like Vegas or Premier to edit and add effects and transitions...You said though that you wanted to add your Own audio Tracks so to do this would would need to use a editor Like Vegas 4 or Premier but they do Not handle the AC3 audio format found in Vob files so then best and easiest thing to do would be to Edit out the Clips that you want to use from the Vob files useing Mpeg2VCR and then take these Clips and decode them to AVI useing something like the HuffYUV Codec so you don"t loose any Quality and decode the audio to Wav format then Load the Clips into the editor and arrange it the way you want and add effects and Transitions and your Audio Tracks and then Render the Project as a Mpeg2 file or as an AVI file that you can encode with a seperate encoder then author to DVD..This will take a Lot of Work but most of this Type of Stuff is tedius and Time consumeing....Good Luck
