My gpu gets incredibly hot to the touch and will crash my computer even while it is just sitting at the desktop. The case is open and there is a fan pointed into the pc but still no luck. I have never unscrewed the card and cleaned it out the insides and i have had it since 2008. Its a nvidia 8800 gts. Any help would be appreciated - thanks : D.
moved to correct forum as not a windows issue. does the card have a fan on it & if so, is it spinning?
blow out the fan with compressed air, set voltage and clockspeed, mem speed to defaults if you've "souped it up" and check also if you can set determine the fan speed. cases are designed to have proper airflow when closed. as long as you have intake and exhaust fans operating, you probably are not helping too terribly much by leaving it open.
Hey, U should download RivaTuner to set the fan speed up a little higher I've been reading on some other sites about 8800gt (i have it too!) and it gets reeally hot on startup and the fans won spin so fast unless its like 90 degrees Also speedfan shows you the temp of the gpu itself which is really handy Now im at 70 degrees which is fine (105 is the max)
those both sound like great ideas/programs but they are both not supported by windows 7. ill do some research though.
Please check Forum b4 even posting something like this if it's about fans! http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-111/pc_is_loud_after_cleaning_my_fans-884691/ Also get another fans and make the fan under it to blow the heat out instead of it staying in one spot awhile nothing is blowing on it!...
You can make the fan run faster all the time with a simple modification to the wires going to the fan...this might be a good option given your situation.
Ummm, from what i see, im nto even a moderator? I'm just helping out? also, since your the moderator why not just give link to other people so they can "Solve problem" faster?(If it's similar...) The link i give may solved his problems faster instead of posting 10 more replies which would not help :/ or even if it does, it takes longer for him to solve it...
forum rules state that you search 1st before posting. forum rules also state that you are to start your own thread instead of hijacking another member's thread. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487
how would i go about doing this? also im going to blow it all out with compressed air tomorrow ill let this thread know how it goes : D thanks
It all depends on the fan...I really don't know what kind of fan they used on your particular card, so it is hard to say how to do the job. There are two general types of fans: 1.) Power control; just 2 wires. This is simple; just hardwire the fan wires to either 5v or 12v (it would say on the fan itself). If it is too loud, install a potentiometer or a resistor in the ground wire. 2.) PWM control; this would have at least three wires...power, ground, and control. Generally these fans will run at full speed if the control wire is disconnected, and will run at various different speeds if you install a potentiometer in the wire going to the fan, and connect the other end of this wire to ground (sometimes it is a wire going to 5V instead). However, some of these fans will require a real PWM controller. The tricky thing is that fans often have a tach wire to report speeds to the system...thus, 2 wire fans become 3 wire fans and 3 wire fans become 4 wire fans, and it can be tricky to tell a 3 wire PWM fan from a 3 wire regular fan without a multimeter.
"Let the moderators do their work." i read it and you did not did your work of helping people jobs... i just did for you and i didn't know about the "Do not play the role of a moderator if you are not one." will just let me off this one because you didn't do your job LOL, im on a lot but i never read the READ FIRST/READ THIS thing/words because it's not recommended to read it because it's all about "Dont do this and do that stuff" things and it's really annoying(I seen a lot on other sites and really LOTS)...
Just use RivaTuner and set the FAN speed to like 75% or something? But i recommend you installing a FAN to blow to the Video Card like a Case i saw and link below for example: http://3btech.net/locsprclarca.html My bro has a case kinda like the one with the link above and it's working fine with the video card under this without setting fan speed or anything and it's pretty quiet too... http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-nVidia-G...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0032W602A
LightXxX, i do not have to search & link to a member when a member should have done a search in the 1st place. until such time that you know better respect your elders as i'm a lot older then you are.
BTW...I should have asked...did you try RivaTuner? I know the website says it is not supported by Windows 7, but it works fine on my laptop (win7 x64).
It worked on my Windows 7 Ultimate x86(32-bit) and i didn't tweaks anything yet because im scare it make blow up LMSAO!
I did said that this person should search B4 i gave link so, Who Cares? Just forget about this because we just wasting room on this thread... and this is nothing about the Title too so stop making me post useless stuff with you -_-...
One day you two will be good friends...or LightXxX will be banned...not sure which will happen first...
