I bought another one it differs from the two I got the last sale from Staples. The two I got A few months back had only beige face plate you had to email I/O MAGIC for free black face plate. This time it came with the black face plate installed and the beige in the box as well. Here is a way to mabey tell if your getting the BenQ are LITE-ON. I read this on another forum if you push in the bottom of the box if the drive is wraped in pink bubble wrap it's a Lite-on,if it's in a clear bag it's the Ben'Q.I checked about 8 boxes and this held true only found one BenQ the rest were Lite-on in the pink bubble wrap. After 10.00 off coupon and 3.00 ink voucher it came to $40.36
Those I/O magic benqs usually say benq and the model# in the back of the drive.I don't think they are rebadges because they usually have the benq fw version. So that makes them ligitate benqs. I also looked at my local staples and wandered which brand name they were. The associate wouldn't let me open up the box, LOL So I passed. Benq or Lite-on lightscribe: You should be ok either brand. As long as they aren't the HP lightscribes. I beleive the HP 640i is also a rebadged benq 1655? I'll have to check again and look for the clear bag-if they got any left. A guy I work with, picked one up and he said his was a benq 1655.
Yea,it will say BenQ 1655 right on the drive but it has some kind of Bastard firmware installed. You will not be able to use Q-suite are upgrade with official BenQ firmware until you crossflash it then it's a true Ben-Q and can use the Q-suite.Ive already crossflashed two of these exact drives with no problems.
I know this is dredging an old topic, however I would like to say thank you. The bag trick worked great with the Light scribe drive I picked up last night, though all on the shelf were BenQs so maybe it isn't really an issue any more? So once again thanks.
Yea,I picked another one up at staples last week.It cost$20.00 after rebate,$15.00 off coupon and three ink coupons.
paiger, When you say ink coupons are you refering to the empty ink cartridge vouchers worth $3 staples gives you when you take them your empty cartridges? I was under the impression you could only use 1 voucher per purchase. I've got a bunch of those vouchers.
Yeah I tried the 15 and ink, but they only gave me the 15, wouldn't combine them. So I think it is store/csr dependant.
Yes Mort81,the $3.00 empty ink cartridge vouchers they changed it now you can use up to three per transaction. And yes there not really suppose to combine the ink vouchers with any other coupon but the kid at one of my local Staples is pretty cool about doing that.
