Hello i have an avi file (XVID) and subs in .txt format. the only thing i want to do is hardcode these subs to the avi, keeping it an avi. basically i want everything the same but the subs hardcoded. i don't what to go any other route. just hardcode the subs to the file, so the sub is part of the movie at all times. the only thing i'm not sure of is how to use or convert the .txt to .srt or .sub or whatever i need to get it right. thanx for any help.

I believe you can use Subtitle Workshop and convert the .txt to .sub or .srt. It's going to take you some time to convert. I would try to find a subtitle that has the extension .srt already.
