Is there any specific codec, driver, plugin or player for playing teg vcd or is the green square I get on the screen just because the file is corrupted ?
    thanQ in advance

is this a theater rip "teg" you probably need divx codec, if it is avi or mpg you can get easy video fixer to be safe, can you even watch the movie on media player?

teg would refer to the release group! A telesync is a recording in a movie theatre with audio from external source (like a mic on the speaker! lol)

Anyways, usually telesync would come in bin/cue files so are you sure you didnt get a re-encode?

ThanQ for replying, LAZY321 and Dela ,
I dont know any other way of saying it without perhaps offending the forum laws, but I`ll try:
Let`s say I`m using a certain well known P2p program that has a built in preview app( named `avi preview`) which allows one to preview a file in it`s very first stages and thus decide wether one really wants to continue transfer.
Now, I do have divx 3, 4 and 5 codecs as well as Xvid, smr and 3xiv installed and I do know a telecine, telesync , cam or screener relate to the definition of the original copy as opposed to the form of compression , yet still again and again, such names produce a blank screen in my preview. No, LAZY 321, I havent , as yet, downloaded a complete file such as that to my drive and therefore never had the chance to check it with Media player but I will do so now, and thank you.
And from Dela, I am given to understand that perhpas these files are just not viewable
beacuse they are in format bin/cue.
Again I see the only solution with be to download a complete file or two and play with them.
I just wondered, perhaps vcd has a different codec...So I am off to downlaod and be back to report to you .
    Thanks again
    brk

Hi Praetor, and thanks for responding
I have powerdvd 5 and windvd installed.
Indeed having downloaded a full TEG telecine movie I recieve the same black soundless screen under various players.
Currently I am browsing your Usefull tutorial you`ve directed me to, Praetor, and will get back at you only after having meticulously performed the instructions prescribed therein
    Thanks in the meanwhile

I have followed precisely the instructions given in praetor`s codec page.Uninstalled all codecs and reinstalled exactly as prescribed. both Gspot and Avicodec recognise this teg telecine , (for example), as divx 5. yet still it gives a blank screen. One thing strange though is that all those misfit blackscreen flics show in their beginning at the bottom right corner of the screen the white divx sign for a couple of seconds then fading out slowly into everlasting blackness. These could always be just fucked up files but how come so many of them, and how come always the teg telecines or telesyncs and such ? I simply am lost in that.

Everything which is a screener , a cam, a good cam, a telecine, or a telesync would give me that black screen in either WMD, powerdvd 5 or windvd platinum. But everything !
Yet These files ARE recognised by my windows as Media files !
Every other flic definition works fine - and I went through dozens of movies of either kind.
Something is definitley wrong and unsolved about this...
Anyone with any lead - Please assist.

Great, Trice, I mean - sorry for you, still it somewhat doubles our chances to play the files ( if at all playabe). We should exchange adresses. Mine:

If you've followed by little guide then there are two more possibilities
    1. Open the movie with AVICodec/GSpot to see if there are any funky codecs that are needed to watch the movie.
    2. You have downloaded fake.

Sorry , Praetor, about the adresses, Ofcourse It`s a silly thing to do . Lesson learned.
Just to make sure I understand :
in Gspot 4cc:DX50/divx , name:DivX 5.0 , stat: stat:3 codecs- ffdshow mpeg-4 video decoder, Divx decoder filter, Divx decoder filter. The render was succesfull.
Please, I would like to know, which of the above readings is null, Just that I know what`s going on. Thanks and sorry for the extra bother.

Dont worry about the emails... i see enough of them all the time... its just a menial correcton to me now hehe.

This has all the appearence of a valid movie. If it plays as expected then there is no more problem. However if you get garbled pictures, black screen then it is still a fake. Why? Someone made a legitimate 2 hour clip based on the same black screen perhaps. So it is a legit AVI file but not what the filename suggests

    Thanks Praetor,
We do get to see a certain amount of files out there, that claim to be what they`re not. So a 2 hours black screen movie should be, probably, quite a reasonable phenomenon.
what still baffles me in a way, is that expressly and specifically the `screeners`, the `cams`, the `good cams`, the `telesyncs` and the `telecines` or in one word : copies of theatre flics, behave that way (according to my misfortunate experience), and not the dvdrips. Perhaps because the practical joke of an empty movie is much more effective there.

Hey I have kind of the same problem, I downloaded this 3 videos and I can hear the sound but cant see a thing, on media player shows a black screen and on divx a greenish screen. Ive downloaded G-sPot and all the otehr codec progs that you mention here. ButI find weird that ive downloaded all the time and this is the first time that happens to me, exactly on this 3 files that i downloaded at the same time... If it is a fake video, Do I have such a bad luck that I got 3 fake ones at the same time? or what else can I try?

If you used KaZaa to download then there is a more than likely chance you got a fake there, or 3 i should say. Now what did GSpot say you needed for the file? Personally I would have prefered to use AviCodec to check but GSpot will do!

Also have you install any codec packs or went on a mad codec installation spree lately??
