guys Im trying to put movies on my xbox hard drive and im having a hack of a time. Im doing this because my 2 year old like to get his dvd down and try to put them into the dvd player. need less to say he screw them up in the process. I have xbmc and tryied to use the dvd2xbox but im thinking that is only for games. I have tried to shrink them with dvd shrik but after that I get a bunch of files like the audio and ts files can some one help me out here. I would like to be able to ftp them from my computer to my xbox but can find a good how to forum. I can shirk them to and ISO but xbox does not read and iso. Is there a program that lest me transfer the dvd to xbox hard drive so I can play the movies right of the drive. thanks guys
all the files in the folder ts are playable files (*.vob are files that you can play with a mediaplayer. they are large in size, totalling up to around 4.3 gig). you can copy them over and play them in xbmc you should be able to download a program to convert it into divx (takes some time on slowe computers like mine), then the file size is around 700 mb. or just copy over the extracted vob files to your harddrive (that takes up a lot of space). you can use ftp, but c-xboxtools might/will? also work. i only use ftp to transfer files over (all except games, for that i use qwix)
I have tried to copy over all the ts files but when I go to were I copied it and go to play the movie I still get all those files and when I click on the frist ts file it plays for 25 sec then stops. If I convert the ts and audo files to the divx what is the quality like and that for the quick response.
a dvd is build up in chapters. so if you have 7 chapters, you will have around 8 vob files. the first will be around 30 seconds (introduction and piracy disclaimers), the other 7 will be the different chapters. as 1 chapter has finished, you have to select the next chapter manually. since this is another vob file. while running a dvd (from the disc, this is off course done automatically). if you convert to a divx, you will get one movie since all chapters will be 'merged' into 1 file. converting to divx, and the quality, is a matter of taste. i myself find a divx comparable to dvd, but i only watch divx movies. but if you are going to rip the movie yourself, you can choose the quality. the higher the quality, the larger the file. a normal divx is around 700 mb (with mp3 sound quality). but it is depending on the audio source (ac3/dts takes up around 500 mb, so you will get a divx of around 1000/1100 mb). it all is a matter of taste, a good 700 mb divx (mp3 sound) suffices in my opinion
that sounds goog to me do you have a good program that you would recomcend in converting the DVD ts files to the divx format
virtualdub is most commonly used i believe, although it needs some practice. there are many options to consider with that program. but, there are very good manuals/tutorials online that explain exactly how to rip a movie. so you could look into that. you can also try some all in one dvd to divx programs, just download a trial and try. they are more often easy to use (select file and output and your done), but they do not have much options. virtual dub is free, other programs most often not. just google around, but keep in mind that it takes some time that ripping is slow on old computers!
Ok finaly got my dvd to my HDD on my computer as a wmv. I ftp the wmv file over to my xbox using flash fxp. Now my problem is I can only see the file it the filemanager on the xbox. When I go to video and click on my video icon and go edit sorce to tell it to look at my F drive it does not see the video. and yes I restarted the xbox, what am I doing wrong.
xbmc should play it if wmv is supported. i'm not sure if wmv is supported (i think it is, but i'm not sure). open the file in xbmc, you shouldn't have any problem. i recommend using xbmc to play all media, it has the best support for media. but that is my opinion (humble as it is)
yes I can play the file but I have to go to file manager to play it. I want to be able to go to my video page and be able to access it from there. Why does the xbox not see it anyware else but in file manager. Like I said i have tried to edit sorce and tell it to go look in my f folder but it does not show any thing there. Its like it not on the xbox but it shows in file manager.
i'm sorry, i read it wrong. no i do not know the answer to that, i always play my files by using the filemanager. as an addition to something i said in an earlier post: if you copy all the files (in the folder video ts etc) from a dvd to your xbox harddrive, you have to open the *.ifo file to play it from the harddrive. And not the individual *.vob files as a said in that post! if you open the ifo file, it will play all the files in the right order.
yup that works to thanks. But does anybody know why I can only see my movie in the filemanager. I would like to be able to go to my movie folder and pic it from there. Can anybody help me with this. This is driving my nuts.
