Well.... I had to re-install Windows XP after virus attack. I have Vaio PCV-RS620 and I have partitioned my hard drive into 2. I did NOT obtain the recovery disks prior to reformatting the hard drive and installing XP.... so all the Vaio applications (Giga pocket, click to dvd, etc. are gone). So, according to Sony esupport website, I need to order their Vaio Recovery Media Kit. The questions I have are : 1. Do I just download and install all the drivers from Sony esupport website and then pop in the recovery dvd's and follow instructions ? Or do I have to install windows xp AGAIN ? It seems from various forum that the recovery dvd don't recognize XP ???? 2. Some are selling these recovery dvd's on ebay. Are they any good ? 3. Is there any other way I can get these files ? Thanks for your advice.
if you have the application and recovery discs that came with your pc just reinstall them from the disc if you do not the cheapest way is to order the ones for your system from sony. I would venture to say that the ones on ebay are any good. I sometimes wonder if those guys really make any money but I guess they do most of that stuff is available with some searching on the internet for free. I would stick with sony support and order the discs they don't cost much realy. I had to do it on my nephews desktop. Prevent viruses keep you anti-virus up to date and always scan files you download before installing or playing them on your pc. Good luck
I would try to stay away from Vaio recovery discs. I have a vaio and when i tryed to use the recov discs after a clean install the discs try to get you comp back to the factory installed state. so if you partitioned it will try to unpartition. also on my discs you could not just grab single programs off the disc you had to run all SIX of them and all the crap that was on them was installed as well. Try to just get application discs and as I said stay away from recovery discs...all the time
