I have a 160GB hard drive that i installed. When the installation process was done it had only said it had about 128GB. I heard that you have to split the hard drive so that i can get more of my memory closer to 160GB. Do you guys know how i can get more gigs out of my 160GB?
what windows are you using. have a customer bought 120gig hd, motherboard sees it as 120gig, win98 boot disk sees 40gig but after format was 120gig. so see what windows says
I have Windows XP...my other hard drive is 40GB and installed as 40GB. I don't know whats up with my new one.
what does your motherboard see it as 160gb or less.can you offline the 40gig & redo 160gig from scratch. if neither work try get patition magic 7?. if motherboard sees it less possible you need a bios upgrade as some bios won't work with higher cap. drives, also check for a disk manager from your harddrive manufacturer
Hey! Ps2dude, do you have Service Pack 1 or 2 installed? Windows does have hard drive barriers for different O/S...98 is 120gb 2000/XP is 128/137gb. If you update to SP1 you should get the full potential of the drive providing your BIOS has 48bit Logical Block Addressing. If your drive is a Maxtor you should download Maxtor Big Drive Enabler. If you choose, you can partition the 160gb into two 80gb and you shouldn't need to do the above. XP will recognize the two 80gb and you should be ok.
