I have some files in Mp3 format that I have converted to .wma using Nero, that I would like to burn to cd to play in my car (car doesn't play mp3), the .wma files are too long for one cd, so my question is, how do I split the file to play on two cd's? Nero has an great program that allows me to do this with video, but the program for audio only allows me to burn the file, not split it, add chapters or anything like that. I have Nero 7 Ultra Edition-- perhaps it does have this capability and I just don't know which application it is or how to use it-- if there is someone with more knowledge about Nero or any other program that I can use to split these files, your help would be greatly appreciated.
First, let's start with some basics here. It wasn't necessary for you to convert your files. Nero would do this automatically for you when you go to burn them to disc. When you convert from one lossy format to another you loss quality. That is what you are you doing when you convert from mp3 to wma. If you have the original mp3 files I would delete the wma files. When you go to burn a CD with Nero you would ask it to burn an "Audio CD". Nero will take the mp3 file & convert it to a format that will work on most CD Players. If you don't have the original mp3 files, & still want to procede with the wma files, that's fine. It will still work. You can use Nero Wave Editor to split the file where you want. You just highlight the section you want to save to a [bold]new file[/bold]& click on "Edit" & go down & click on "Copy to File". You'll get a pop-up box, where you'll navigate to wherever you want to save the file. Name it & click enter. Then you have the first half saved. While you still have that first half highlighted in the wave editor, just hit "Control + X" & this will delete the highlighted area. Then you can just highlight the rest of the file & do the same as you did for the first half to save it. It's very important that you don't click on "Save" under "File". If you were to highlight 1min. of a 10min. file & click on "Save" it would [bold]Replace[/bold] the 10min. file with the 1min. file. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask & I'll try to help. I'm not an expert but I've used Nero quite a bit. Good Luck!!
Thanks for the instructions. I did still have the origianl mp3's, so I tried it the way that you said, just burning it streight and letting it change it on its own. Here's where I get stuck, the file is too long for one disk. I'm glad that you know how to use wave eiditor, cause now matter how many times I read through the help file that I had to download, I couldn't find anything about splitting a file-- I'm gonna try your intstuctions on using wave editor to split the original mp3's-- thanx, wish me luck
