Ok, when I shut down the computer, how come the light on the back of the computer doesn't turn off?

is there a way besides just unpluging the computer plug?

this happens to HP and Gateway... or is the computer just like that on all computers?

Do you mean a little LED on the network card? That's normal. Just pull out the plug from the wall if it annoys you.

Don't some PCs have switches on the back of the power suply? Just turn that off if it annoys you.

Edit: Indo gets in first, again :p

It does not do any harm, you are using hardly any power. Why are you worrying about it?
