hp 4280 printer issue

    Hi all. I am having issues printing in black or colour , as follows :
    Black - the printer goes thru the motions, but just a blank page comes out
    Colour - it prints the picure, but the colours are all distorted

    These are good cartridges, and have been tried in another printer.
    I have tried a test print. It just a red triangle at the top , then 3 rows of small blue squeares at the bottom
    I have selected the option to clean the print cartridges. It then prints out a row of letters clearly , but in Grey. It then prints 2 rows of colours . Theses are are a mix of colours , yellow , blue, green, purple

    try the printer on another pc to see if still does it as could be corrupted driver software on your pc or corrupted firmware
    in printer. also try different usb cable & pc ports if that is how it is connected to your pc.

    Thanks . I will try and re-install the printer drivers on my pc.
    If its the firmware on the printer , how can i resolve that - is it downloadable ?
    Will also try and hook it up to my laptop instead.
    I dont think its cable issue, as it wouldnt work at all if they were faulty.

    I didn't say firmware in the pc but in the printer.

    check on the hp site to see if they have firmware for your printer.

    I cant see any specifics on there.
    Im convinced its a hardware isse, but dont know what i can try to do to rectify it. I have cleaned the cartridges (which I know work anyway).
    Is there anything I can do to clean any print heads (? ) or something. I mention print heads as this was an issue with a different model - but maybe this one doesnt have such a thing.
    I really like the printer, and the scanne ris excellent, so dont want to just scrap it.
