I bought a new hp pavilion a1419h desktop pc, and the dvd burner on it is a hp 740b lightscribe. The first dvd that I backed up on it read and burned with no problems, using dvd decrypter. Now I am trying to backup another one of my dvd's, and dvd decrypter keeps saying media not present, like it doesn't want to read my blanks. It does read cd's and dvd's fine, but when I try to burn it, it wont read the blanks. I even installed nero, and when I tried to burn the compilation it said that I didn't have a disk in the drive, even though I did. I don't know what the problem is, I just got this pc last saturday, brand new. Please help.
Oh, and I have been using dvd-r's only could this be the problem???

Using DVD-R discs is not your problem ...
I assume that your 'source drive' space is blank .. have you clicked on the drop down to see if your drive is listed? If it's not listed, try clicking on 'tools' then click on 'search for SCSI/ATAPI Devices .. hopefully it will then find your drive ...

Here is a link with the latest and greatest firmware for your drive

I am in the same boat! I have the same writer and for some reason it won't read most blank CD-Rs. It reads blank DVDs just fine but for some reason it refuses to read certain blank CD-R discs. I even went out and purchased HP CD-Rs and it STILL won't read them. I've done the newest firmware upgrade but it didn't help at all.

Would love some insight on this issue!

    Not true . . the HP 740b will read/burn DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW as well as DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL and CD-R

All 740b drives are created equal
