im tryin to update my DVD writer's(HP 300c) firmware because it cant read my Taiyo DVD's that i purchased. i bought this computer a while ago so i thought that its the firmware on it that needs to be updated, so i donwloaded the update from the HP site, and when i tried to update, in the middle of the update, it suddenly stopped and i got this message. "This HP Firmware Upgrade utility requires that your original CD-Writer or DVD Writer software be installed on your computer. Please reinstall your original CD or DVD Writer software, and make sure HP RecordNow (or HP MyCD) has been successfully installed." so my question to yall is, where can i get my hands on this "SOFTWARE" from??? i HOPE theres a downloadable version of it.
If those TY discs are new (as in 16X) you may not be able to use them even with a firmware update. According to RPC1 that drive hasn't had support since 2004, which would make the drive obsolete and not able to handle the new media being introduced to it. I found a link to another firmware update from 2005 via Google search, but don't know if it is a reliabe source. Google revealed no sources for the RecordNow software.
You are very welcome and happy shopping. I would suggest the NEC 3550 or BenQ DW1650/1655. You can get them from newegg.com for around $30-$50 american.
