    hello everyone,

so now that school has started back up, im looking for a second battery for my laptop, its a HP g60. i would rather get a 12 cell battery instead of the stock 6 cell, this way it will last even longer. i have found plenty on ebay and other sites, but am curious as to if my laptop would have problems charging the 12 cells due to power differences. my stock battery that came with the laptop reads as follows:

    series: HSTNN-YB72
    10.8V~47Wh
    4090mAh

the replacement 12 cell batteries are as follows:

    Model: HSTNN-LB79

    HP Part Number: 462891-422

    Capacity: 8800mAh

    Voltage:11.1V

i know the capacity should be larger since it has twice as many cells, but what worries me is the voltage. with the .3 difference would i run into problems charging it?

i have found some that were 10.8V like my stock one is, but they are around 30+ dollars more expensive and if i wont have any problems with the 11.1V models then i would rather buy it.

thanks in advance for anyones assistance.

    1. The voltage listed in the specs is the OUTPUT VOLTAGE.

    2. .3v is not going to make a difference.

    3. If it's rated as a supported replacement for your model laptop, it's specified to work. The laptop can tell the difference and make any necessary adjustments.

i figured it would work since it said it was compatible. however, when i had my older sony laptop and purchased a second battery for it (that was also stated to be compatible) it failed to charge. thus my reason for being weary this time, and wanting some confirmation.

And remember that Li-Ion batteries suffer more wear and tear when they are hot, and when they are a full charge. They generally maintain the best around 40% charge so if you are at home parked beside a plugin just pull the battery out and use the outlet. It'll make your battery a lot longer than gaming with it on your lap and constantly having it at 100%

right, which is what i do, but i have back to back 3 hour classes, so there is noooo way the stock battery will last that long; thus the need for a second battery. and you dont have to worry about me gaming on my laptop. the most i game would be with 'stake your acres' if i could find it somewhere to download.

Yeah don't worry about it to the point making the device less functional. A battery that requires high maintenance is as useful as one that doesn't hold a charge. I've come to accept I'll need a new battery every couple of years which I am ok with. It's just the last one only lasted a single year so that hurt a bit.

Most people simply buy a new laptop but I don't believe in being that wasteful. My laptop is at least 4 years old now but it still does what I need for school as well as any new one. And it can even still handle some newer games on lowest settings.
