You probably need a Windows 98 setup disk. start the computer without cd-rom support and at the command type 'format x: (where x is your hard drive, usually c:) whenever this finishes you need to run fdisk at the prompt (just type fdisk) when ever it asks you if you want large drive support, hit y and press enter. Now you need to set up a primary partition. it is option 1 then 1 again. when this has finished you need to run xp setup again. If this still does not detect your laptops hard drive, just try the procedure again, and if you don't know what to do just post up!!!!!!!!!! (again)

i have tried this also. in this case if i load windows 98 on the laptop it gets loaded without any error.but if i cancle the setup and try to load windows xp on it, it gives the same error. the question is that if the hard disk is ok and it is getting detected and formated with windows 98 then why not with windows xp please help me out
