    Hi,

My brother in law gave me their old tower to see if I couldn't get it going again for their kids to use, decent machine actually, it had 2 internal hard drives in it and he said it was running slower than ever and locking up often so they just stuck it in the corner.

The pc was not booting up (sat at a blank screen) altho he said it had worked previously, so the first thing I did was remove both hard drives and hooked them up externally to my main pc, I wanted to see if they were healthy and if they had any viruses on them etc.

Health check both drives passed, defragmented them (OMG they were horrible it took HOURS) and on the storage drive ran a virus scan and spyware scan (zero issues) spybot seek and destroy and avast both fully updated etc.

On the main C drive I did the defrag, ran the spybot caught about 10 things mainly cookies nothing horrible, then ran avast, it found 17 things in the temp files, hit remove at the end of scan, re ran the scans and it came out clean.

So both drives are verified as working/healthy, defragged, clean of spyware and viruses, put back into the system and i still get the blank screen, but maybe 1 out of 10 times i got

    Bios Rom Checksum Error

    Detecting IDE ATAPI Decivce

    Detecting IDE ATAPI Decivce

    Detecting IDE ATAPI Decivce

Found CDrom, boot from it ...

But no matter what I do (F keys, Delete etc) I can't get the pc to respond or do anything.

I also replaced the cmos battery with a new one thinking it might do something to help it restart, then I also tried to reset the cmos via This HP link (moving a jumper), still no go but now even after repeated attempts to start it (fans all power up, lights come on, no beeps of anykind) yet nothing to the monitor at all.

I even went thru and confirmed all cards, ram, cords were all seated fully, and even tested the monitor on another system it works but just this darn thing won't give me anything to work with, just a black screen (not even kicking the monitor from sleep mode) and no beeps etc so what else can I check try or do?

disconnect the rom drive(s) & the 2nd hd so only c: drive is connected to see if now boot or not.

Thanks for the suggestion on that, disconnected the storage drive and the cdrom drive but still got the same results (black screen, no beeps, fans all power up but basically nothing)...

Never had a situation where this has happened, driving me nuts that it's probably something simple...

Even took all the cards and ram out and reseated them, thinking maybe it was something like that, still nogo...
