i am an intern at universal music group and The music industry is coming together to produce a double CD set to benefit the victims of the recent devastating hurricanes along the Gulf Coast. The title of the benefit CD says it all, "Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now". All of the participating artists, publishers and songwriters, will donate their royalties to this worthy project. Not only do we want to do our part to help all the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we also recognize that New Orleans is one of this nation's great cradles of music. We want to make a special effort to help musicians get back on their feet. some artists include: Coldplay, harry conick jr., faith hill, r.kelly, kanye west, john mayer, Elton john, brian Wilson, and barbara Streisand…just to name a few!!! with over 20 in all!
Yes, I guess this would be a form of advertising, but also something that means at lot to music fans and industry members here in the US. New Orleans, which is now a wasteland in some areas, is technically the home of American Music, with Jazz, which most consider the first true American musical form, was born. No one will even come back to the city now, and it's possible the city will never recover. This is why musicians, music fans, and others in the music industry care so much about this issue. This is a recent article from the Washington Post describing the current situation in New Orleans, and this also applies to other areas of the Gulf Coast: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/28/AR2005112801681.html And like I said, the net revenue, which is around $15 for each CD, gets donated to the organizations like Habitat for Humanity, which specifically builds (in this rebuilds) homes for people who can't afford one themselves. I volunteered for this organization a while back, there's actually skilled craftsmen who volunteer their services to help as well, it was great to work with them.
