I have a recently got an old Compaq Presario 7478 and i have 256 mb of RAM. The max it can take is 512. I want to upgrade but i have no idea what kind to buy. when i was looking in the paper at the circulars i found some cheap kingston memory at best buy and circuit city. Is there any specific type which i must buy, or can i just get anything that will fit? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you
you are looking at getting sdram not ddr ram. check to see how many sticks of ram you have now as in 1-256meg or 2-128meg sdram. might not be able to get pc100 256meg ram so try pc133 256meg ram but check with store policy on returns of not work on computer. the computer is a k6-2-533mhz amd cpu & is dead in in cpu department expansion
no... Good call from flip, if ur not sure have a look on crucials site theres a guide takes you through what you to buy just stick in your mobo type and it'll give you a list of compatible sticks.
Mik3h, ram & hd space are totally different like apples & oranges. ram is used to temporarily hold info at the moment but lose power & info is gone. hd is basically along the lines of a glorified tapedrive or vcr in that the files are there somewhat permenantly til either removed or overwritten
Will this ram work for my computer? is it the best one to get? it is 40$ on ebay. I am running on Compaq Presario 7478 with max ram of 512. I currently have 2 sticks of 128 mb. I have only two sots so i would get one stick of 512. Is this good: NEW 512MB PC133 SDRAM 133MHZ 512 MB PC 133 PC SD RAM ** *NAME BRAND CHIPS MICRON (MT), INFINEON***Guaranteed*** Thank you for your time
if can tho might cost more get 2 256meg sdram instead of 1 512meg sdram so if 1 craps out still have other to use till get replacement. also i've had problems with infineon ram when i had some that were 64 & 128meg as they were tempermental on what board they would run on but your choice!!
I would go onto the HP website and chat with a tech. I can't remember where I read it, but a 512 stick can make your system run worse ... think it may have to do with an O/S (think Windows 98). I would go for the 2x256. I mean there is two slots ... and up to 512 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=94494&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
