I bought a USED Xbox and have had it for more than a year & 1/2. But never bothered to find out if it got a modchip in it already. Since my previous Xbox was NEW, I couldn't play or record burned music CDs into it. It used to show an error message that said something like: "the Xbox can't recognize this disk. Please make sure it's an Xbox game or DVD." When I bought this USED Xbox, I could now play burned DVDs and play & record burned music CDs made by me. But I want to know if my Xbox already has a modchip in it. Will someone please answer my question. Thank You.
It doesnt necessarily mean that your box is chipped if it can play recordable media, it may be one of the few versions with a half decent dvd drive in it, philips,panasonic etc i believe can play recordable media. If its over a year old, why not open it up and have a look??? It wont be under warranty anymore so your not loosing out on anything opening the case. You will need two 'torx' screwdrivers, the t10 and t20, the t20 takes the case length black screws from the bottom of the box that hold on the top case, the dvd drive will be on the left, pull the cable out the back (carefully) and check out what kind of drive you have. If the rubber feet have been removed and 2 of the stickers on the bottom of the box have screw holes in them, chances are the lid has already been removed to chip it. the only way you are gonna find out is to remove the hard drive (right) and the dvd drive. It wont take long, the chip i believe should be located towards the left hand side of the motherboard, probably the only thing that doesnt look like it should be there. If it aint chipped, buy an executer 2.6ce chip, with xapter adapter, it means you dont have to solder anything and it screws right down (this is what i have). You will also need a bios flash disk (which i have) if you feel like e-mailing my add is jimmyatbarclaycard@hotmail.com because its against forum rules to talk about some of the other stuff that goes with modifying your xbox. Thank you for answering my question. But I came up with this theory since when I bought it at EB Games, the Xbox already had HUNDREDS of music recorded in it and repeated songs too in different albums. Also, i added more and more music to it and on the memory bar that usually shows 5000+ just recently changed to about 4800+ after all this time of owning the Xbox. Does this gives another key to knowing that the Xbox is already chipped?
you can store thousands of music tracks on a regular xbox anyway, i would say the only way your gonna find out, is to put a copied/backed-up games in the drive and see if it reads, or open it up and take a peak. Jim
no it depends what kind of driver you have if you have a phillips it sucks like hell if you have toshiba samsung dvd driver you can play cd-r's on your xbox burning it in a low speed
my bad, forgot about the odd 'magic' drive that the consoles sometimes come with that play almost evrything, only thing for it then is find someone with a copied game... jim
hehe. you'll know if you xbox has been modded. bevause not only would you be able to play all the burnt cd's but it would bring up a different dashboard when starting the xbox without a disk in it. Also if it has an Xecuter modchip it will say "Xecuter Rox My Box" when you boot it up.
I don't plan to open the Xbox yet since I'm new to this stuff. I haven't tried to backup any games since I don't have a DVD driver nor burner on my computer. (Some people tell me that I can still backup games but only the ones that are CD Rom not DVD Rom). I don't even know any program to use nor on how to do it. Since I'm not that familiar nor smart with computer and chipping. But I can understand with simple and descriptive instructions.
there are no xbox games on normal cd. anyways, as i said you would know if your xbox is modde or not. How, I hear you ask? Well, when you boot the xbox up it would give you all sorts of weird and wonderful options. A few of these options are: Play games from DVD rom, Play games loaded on hard drive, open dvd2xbox, play self installed emulators. These are but a few of the options available. If those are not there and all you get is a green looking monstrosity in the middle of the screen then your xbox is not modded.
turn the xbox over, if the feet havent been removed and the stickers are intact, its never been touched. jim
actually you can burn a game to a cdr. i burned a multiplayer version of halo 1 onto one and it works just fine
well i'l be dipped in shit and rolled in breadcrumbs. That's the first I've heard of a xbox game being put on a normal cd. Good on ya.
