I have an LG DVD burner I am not sure of the make according to the info in Device manger it is HL-dt-st DVDRAM GH2ONS15 which doesn't seem right. If this helps tray door has secur disc and super multi written on it. Anyways when I try and burn a music CD with Nero 7 ultra and Ashampoo I get the same basic message: Cd-R not writabale..please insert a writable disk below this it says:disk required for this compilation CD-R/RW. I am using Maxell CD-R but have never had a problem before. I tired about three different disc can it be that all three are defective? Any help appreciated. I have copied the error report from Nero:

    Change the burner.
I had a similar problem, couldn't butn CDs with Nero or IMGBurn in XP and Vista.
Swapped burner and RMA'd it, all sorted.

there is a few things you can do before you replace your burner:

there is a better version of Nero 7.... 7.10.1.0........

Save your serial # then uninstall Nero!
Use the cleaning tool: Nero7 Clean tool http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero7-tools-utilities.html
do a registry clean up using this free cleaner: CCleaner:
    http://www.ccleaner.com/download
then do a defrag and reboot!

    now reinstall Nero 7.10.1.0: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?2893

your Aspi is missing or corrupt! how it got that way who knows. But you can install an Aspi layer here:
ASPI layer is corrupted, try this, version 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm

by the way.... here is your burner...... it is an LG:
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters...&hddvdrom=&orderby=Name&hits=50&Search=Search

and you can look to see if there is a firmware update for your burner. Nero doesn't seem to list your recorder properly:
it should show your recoder here but it doesn't! this could be a reason why it's not working properly. Are you sure it's connected properly or it just might be that ASPI layer not installed or corrupted. doing an fresh install to Nero 7.10.1.0 and installing that Aspi layer might do the trick. but look into a firmware update!

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. It also adds more media codes and write strategies to the drive to improve burning capabilities and disk recognition.

Hello I installed updated firmware using the burner's auto update feature that come with the software. I also believe that the disk that I was using might have been defective they were the last 4-5 in the bundle. I bought new Cd disks verbatim and have been able to burn 17 CDs without having the message pop up. Should I still install the Aspi layer?
