The blank disk has to be in the burner before all the write speed choices are available, because the burner has to identify the particular media before it can reference the media table in the firmware to get the possible write speeds for the burning strategies available. Do you have your blank disk in the drive before trying to change the write speed?
see thats what makes nero recode even more strange is it tells you to adjust the write speed before the recode, not before the burn so the origional dvd has to be in the drive
My Nero 7 Recode is listing speeds from 2X to maximum on both my systems. Recode lists speeds for my 18X Samsung of 2X, 4X, 8X, 16X and maximum. Have you tried uninstalling Nero, runnning the Clean Tool and reinstalling the current version? The workaround I guess would be to use the Nero Image Recorder as the output target and make an nrg image file in the first step using Nero Recode. Then burn the image file with Nero Burning ROM (or Express) or ImgBurn as the second step. I'd use ImgBurn. If only max and 18X are listed with ImgBurn then I'd assume something might be wrong with the burner itself. Remember the media has to be in the burner and be ready for burning before all write speed options are available. There also isn't any reason why the burner should reject the HP media. http://www.imgburn.com Keep us in the loop as to what's going on.
i kno i dont really kno why its a Brand New Computer with a brand new burner anyway my old burner was a LG i bought from newegg so i have a expansion bay in my computer,so what i did was i bought a new LG burner from newegg, ill install that in the expansion bay and use that one i kno the lg one accepts all media, and for the nero,i dont kno im hoping that once i instal the new burner it will change everything, what programs do u use to backup dvds?
My preferences are AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn. Put one of your blanks into the burner using ImgBurn and see what speeds are listed. The supported write speeds will be in the righthand column about halfway down. There is usually a very long list in the actual burn speed menu since it usually includes CD writing speeds as well.
it has them all listed, from 1x to 56x,i think it is nero, ill try reinstalling it again and then ill see
