hi im in new zealand and i wanted to transfer my vhs tapes to the computer so i could edit them and convert them to dvd i bought a brand new JVC GR D750 video camera which has firewire, ive recorded stuff on the mini dv tape and transfered it to the computer with firewire just fine but after i plug in the av leads like i used to do with my sony camera i plug into the camcorder and 3 coloured plugs into the vcr then press play on the vcr i expected like the sony camera to see the tv picture on the lcd screen, but nothing comes on the lcd screen so i cant convert my old tapes,so is there a way i can do it,and are most of the newer brand camcorders like this one,did they do it to stop people recording copyrighted stuff from the tv or something?

I'm afraid the problem you have is the same one as I (sort of) only in Reverse. There are two main formats at work here - Digital and analog. Your digital camera is using digital input and your VHS Recorder is utilizing Analog Output. I have the reverse problem, with a damaged Digital recorder and a VHS Recorder I am trying to put the Digital collection on the Digital Recorder onto VHS tapes.

It looks like I am going to have to get a new RF converter box (I think my old one has bit the dust - Uhm, gone kaplooey.) You may have to do the same. The RF converter box switches Analog signals to Digital and vice versa.

But then again, I Could be entirely wrong on this. Any one else have any ideas?
