I UPDATED THE FIRMWARE FOR MY (NEC 6650A DVD+-RW/CDRW)from 102C to 103C. The 103C firmware does not allow me to burn cds with Windows Media Player 11, because Media Player will not recognize the drive, it tells me to connect a cd drive and then it can start burning. Does Dell or NEC have FTP files that will allow me to roll back my firmware, or should I just roll back the driver? Dire straits.

Yes. Get another program...Nero, Roxio, etc. You can probably find freeware on-line that is better than WMP.

Firmware updates your drive for new media.
You want the latest firmware available.
Windows media player 11 is still in BETA.
Its going to and will have problems.

You can find the nero 6 suite for around 5 bucks + shipping,
    Thats new with serial.
WMP is NOT what I would recommend to ANYONE for burning.
