All out there who have any idea to help me i would greatly appreciate it.
I have also bought an Acer Aspire 3003WLMI and can't burn a DVD to save my life. I'm using the NTI program that came with it as well as clone DVD. The closest i've been is that i've gotten a burned DVD to play with sound (and it looks really good) on my laptop but they won't play on my standalone (home) DVD player. I'm using Memorex DVD+R's 8x (I think that might be the problem). I also haven't updated the new firmware either. If anyone has ideas please help.

    Thanks

It sounds like you have addressed your problems…

    Media, Firmware, and possible Software.

Try good media like Taiyo Yuden, update your firmware, and try other software programs that will give you good results. Click on the link in my sig for many guides and helpful threads to get you going.

Use LtnRPC to reset or disable the Region Counter. Click Disable and your drive will be region free!
    RPC-2

The only firmware available is VRS3 so is this newer then what you have?

I found and downloaded a firmware today but it wasn't VRS3 it was VOS4 or something like that. Should I go back and reinstall the VRS3. will it make a big difference??

What is your firmware code currently in your DVD writer?

Exactly what is the code of the one you downloaded?

You're using DVD+R's so your standalone DVD Player may not support the DVD+R format (DVD-R or DVD-ROM are the standards)... So either A) reburn on to a DVD-R or BOOKTYPE your DVD+R media to DVD-ROM when burning

    saab900,

I also have the SOSW-833S writer at firmware version VRS2. I was going to update to VRS3 but found the one that you referenced above (VS04) and haven't received a response on my thread as to where VS04 came from and if it is safe to apply to my writer. Have you had any trouble since updating to VS04?

Also, have you had the same trouble myself and other on AD seem to be having .... an excruciatingly loooooonnngggg burn process (about 1 hour and 20 minutes per DVD when set at 8x or 4x)? Burning at 2x gets the job done in about 30 minutes but this is an 8x burner and I'd love to get it working up to snuff.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

    In response to Scubadude:
The firmware that I downloaded was VS04. Do you know anything about it?? I mean it's on my burner now anyways, but if you know anything bad about it I will install the VRS3. I haven't had any troubles yet though.

    In response to bbrain:
No I haven't had any troubles with the firmware since i updated it. Everything seems to run fine. And I actually got my first two successful burns last night (courtesy of Scubadude's link to ScubaPete), which were both on Memorex DVD+R's. Also I haven't had any long burning processes when i up the speed. On 2x about 23:00 mins to burn, 4x if I recall correctly it was about 16:00 mins, 8x I haven't tried yet succesfully and i can't recall the speed it was when i was making coasters ;) i'll let you know when I do though.

No problem Saab900, I use the word Dude a lot myself.

I just know that the firmware you now have it the newest and should do well for you. Let us know how you make out with a 8x burn as well. I use only TY media and I only burn at 8x with terrific results.

Sorry everyone on the tardiness of my reply. I have burnt 2 DVD's on 8x, and the approx. burning time was 11:00mins. with 0 quality loss. However, I am currently conducting an experiment with it because I believe it can only burn at 8x with sony DVD+R's as opposed to the Memorex DVD+R's. I'm also going to see if the DVD-R's work soon as well. I'll keep you posted guys.

Quality is not compromised between the two brands (sony, memorex), however, burning time is. The burner likes to do 8x with the Sony's but only 4x with the Memorex. So it's a toss up cause Sony costs a bit more. As for DVD-R's, or at least with the way i'm burning through DVDD, it won't do it. It won't even start to burn so I don't know whats up with that.
