I am looking to build a top of the line gaming rig so i will not have to worry about upgrading for awhile. I already have a 28 inch monitor in mind http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254026

Is this any good for gaming? I am also getting a blue ray drive and wanted to know if this can run 1080p video.

Here is my wishlist so far, feel free to add/change/critique anything you see

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188049 - motherboard

(I would really like to get feedback on the mobo because I am not sure it will work with my RAM and everything else I want)

    Here what I would change:
RAM - This is a better performer and has better cooling.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224

Hard Drives - First off, the Raports are a very fast drive, and very good, BUT, I wouldnt bother. I would go SSD(Solid State Drive).
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167014
(Note: I believe this is the newer Intel drive but SamMorris will correct me if I am wrong) Budget permitting, get two of these and RAID 0 them for faster performance, and 128 GB of storage for your OS, Apss, and games. 128 GB should be sufficent.

and for storage, you chose a RAID edition drive. While there a high end drive, your not going to put it in a RAID array so I would say get this drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
Its going to perform about the same I believe. Alternatively you could go with this drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136317
The WD Caviar Green will not perform as good as the WD Caviar Black but for file storage you dont really need the performance gain the Black offers.

Oh and yes that monitor will handle 1080. It actually handles 1200. It should do just fine for gaming.

Ok so I have swapped out the raptor for the SSD you listed. I think 64GB on just the APPS side is plenty. Would it be wise to install games I play regularly on it as well?

The ram you listed is only 6GB would it be better to go with 6 as opposed to 12?

I also messed up when posting the secondary hard drive. I had picked out the caviar black! I have one in my current build and it's great.

edit: Wait a second.. ONLY 64 gigs? For $800? Why is the 256gb one only $600?

Don't buy a screen from newegg. Their return policy does not cover dead pixels unless you have a ton of them...this even applies to DOA pixels. That screen does support HDCP and 1080P (although 1080P will be leterboxed, as that screen is 16:10, and 1080P is 16:9)...therefore BluRay will play fine, but with thin black bars above and below the picture.

The SSD that Xplorer4 posted is the old version...the newer ones have model numbers ending in "G2" (some models have two letters after G2). For the price of one of these units, you could get a pair of 300GB 15,000RPM drives...at least with 600GB, you would not need to upgrade immediately.

For your budget, I would get a good SAS RAID card and four 147GB 15,000RPM SAS drives. I was going to design a whole system from scratch, but newegg's server reset my cart on one of the last items ;-(. below is what I remember of it:

I came up with the same CPU, PSU, Graphics, and BD Burner. I was still looking for speekers, as the ones you picked are very expensive...and you can probably get something better for less money. The case is a decent case, and if you like the looks of it, then it is just fine. The sound card you picked is an excelent unit, but you are going to have a very hard time using it with the video cards, as they block the PCI slots on just about every mainboard out there. I found a very nice creative PCI express card with a front panel control set...I am sure you can find it once newegg's server comes back up.

The mainboard you selected will not let you use either PCI slot while using SLI. This is approriate, as that board also does not support x16/x16 SLI. The GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 does support x16/x16 SLI, but will still block the PCI Slots.

The ram you picked was very slow. For gaming, 6GB is more than enough. I would recomend the Corsair non-dominator kit with 3 sticks of 2GB DDR3-1600 @ 7-7-7-20...it is somewhere around $150.

The secondary hard drive you picked is very overpriced, about twice the price of a seagate with the same specs, more even than other 7200RPM WD drives. Given that the main hard drives (below) will give you plenty of room for both OS and games, you might consider the WD Green 1.5TB drive, as it is still cheaper than the 1TB you selected.

4 main hard drives: HITACHI 147GB 15000 RPM SAS Drives ~$190/each
    -and-
3ware 9690SA-4I-SGL PCI Express SAS RAID CARD ~$290
    -and-
    3ware SFF-8087 SAS breakout cable ~$30

    [edit]
the ATI 5870 is coming soon, and will be available as a DX11 card, I would wait for these, as the cards you selected will be outdated very soon.

    [edit2]
I just bought one of the newest version of the WD Green 1.5TB - I can no longer recomend it. It is not any quieter than the 7200RPM seagate 1.5TB drives, and the famous problem is still there...worse now, as it now goes into power saveing mode in the while doing disk writes. It seems to work good with onboard controler(still goes to sleep on it's own, but no rebuild is needed without RAID), but I still cannot recomend a drive with such glaring design flaws when the seagate 7200RPM 1.5TB is the same price and better in so many ways.
