I ordered it Monday and it arrived and I installed it, and it worked flawlessly. :)

It's a BenQ 1640. I got it from http://www.abs.com/index.asp. It cost me $43 plus change including the shipping. I also got the Nero disk with it. I haven't installed it yet.

Is there a good tutorial for burning with Nero Express in this forum? I might give that a try tommorow. I'm happy I've got everything working good again. :)

SuzieC: Congrats on the new 1640. They are excellent burners. I gave a total of $38 for mine at newegg.com for just bare drive only.

Nero is an excellent program. When you download it off your OEM disc, make sure you leave out the INCD packet. That packet will cause problems,so best to no download INCD.

Tutorials: There's all kinds of guides here. You'll have to find the guide for what you want to do.Ripping original dvds/burning avi's/jpegs/mpegs/ISO/BUP/etc. There's a whole lot of different things,so transfers may be in order.

Tell us what exactly you are trying to burn onto dvd media and we can go from there.Nero will not pull off encryptions. There's other free programs here for that purpose.

I'm on my dad's pc,so I don't have access to any of my benq links. Here's a few things to take note of.This drive is capable of booktyping the plus format to dvd-rom. Locate the utility called Q-suite 2.0.If you run into stand alone compatability problems with your backups, well worth the use of booktyping. That utility also has some other great features like over burn control.Just look in the dvd-rw drive threads for threads with the title of Benq-1640 and you'll find the link to benq's main website.

You will love the performance of your 1640. I've been using: Verbatim +8x/+16x/sony +8x/fuji +8x/Office depot-+8x/+16x/and maxell +8x.These drives will burn just about anything you slap in them.
