I just reformatted my computer and it's more messed than ever Whenever I close any program, it still runs, the winodw it's in closes, but when I go into the task manager and look in processes, it's still there This also causes a big problem since it prevents me from opening a lot of programs/games 2 times without restarting the computer I have tried ending the processes but nothing happens when I try I also have spybot and updated it and scanned my system.. apparently I have no viruses Since I just reformatted (using a Windows XP Home Edition inc. SVC Pack 1), I'm not sure if the service pack 2 updates went smoothly Has anyone else experienced this problem or know how to fix it?
Installing SP2 as an update can cause unknown issues with older drivers or drivers in use from SP1. Google "slipstreaming XP SP2". Creating an intergrated SP2 disk is the best option for installing XP.
I would....yes. After creating the slipstreamed CD, just run thru setup as you would installing XP for the first time. Get rid of any partitions that exist, create just the one needed for XP, or more if that's the case....format using Quick NTFS, and install. There's no need for a Full NTFS format...unless you perceive any physical issues with the hard drive.
Try running the system thru an antivirus scanner...Spybot may remove some trojans and other ad/spyware..but it is not an antivirus program.
Ok, you dont want to loose your stuff, thats why its good to have two hard drive( I have a 80GB and I split it in two 60 and 20), one for windows and one for stuff. I would say to get a next hard drive, put it as the slave drive, save your stuff on it. Then you can format your c drive.
obdo, Like Morph416 said run a virus check if you do not have one I recommend this one AVG Free http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5 the best FREE anti-virus program IMO When it has finished run this program AVG Anti-Spyware Free http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5 When you have done this I suggest doing a Hijack this scan. Download HijackThis (click the name). Create a folder in C: named HjT. Extract the files to the new folder. Open HijackThis.exe and "Do a system scan and save a log file". then post the log file in here http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/166 http://filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
yea thanks, fixed it, it seems norten firewall was screwing everything up, as soon as i uninstalled it, all better
