On the screen where it says that the xbox needs service there is a 05 in the upper left hand corner, maybe this will help somebody.

your hard drive isnt locked so you have to use xbox HDM to fix it but its gonna be difficult to fix unless you have your eeprom backed up on your computer somewhere, if you do all you have to do is put that in the eeprom for xbox hdm then make the iso and burn it to a cd-rw and boot that disk in your pc and then pick the locking options from the menu and lock it back using the eeprom

I don't think that i have the eeprom backed up, i have looked through many folders and haven't found it, i can't get that from another xbox right?, it is specific to mine.

Thanks for the input chunkhead, but can you tell me what that is and how to use it. I also tried hotswapping with my computer but i couldn't get to any of the options once i was in xboxhdm, it also said that there was no xbox connected, maybe i didn't have it connected right but i plugged the xbox ide directly into the computers hd, isn't that right?

If i can't get the hot swapping to work i think i might just get a new hard drive since i wanted to upgrade to a bigger one anyway. Do i need all my files backup up for that too or can i just swap them out?

you can just find a backup c drive on the internet and use that with xbox hdm to make your new drive.

P.S. You're friend is a retard, I would slap him if I were you.

So you're saying any computer HD can work in a XBox?

I've got a 30GB just sitting on the shelf. I can theoretically use that for my XBox? Anyone point me to where I can learn to swap the HDs?
