If anyone here know of a suitable third party photo viewer and editor for XP Pro, please post the details. I am looking for a free program :)

    Thank you.

In Vista, there is the Windows Photo Gallery where you can view photos and do some fixes. Don't know if that was in XP.

faststone Image viewer. Comes in portable version as well. It's safe to use. It's my go to for photo management. It's free & no ads or other junk

    FastStone Image Viewer 7.5
    Freeware (Last Update: 2020-03-10)
An image browser, converter and editor that supports all major graphic formats including BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, GIF, PNG, PCX, TIFF, WMF, ICO, TGA and camera raw files. It has a nice array of features such as image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, emailing, resizing, cropping, color adjustments, musical slideshow and much more.

Thank you for your help. I am not able to find this at Adobe web site. I found someone else also looking for this without success:
    https://community.adobe.com/t5/down...oad-adobe-photoshop-elements-2-0/td-p/8212107
This is available here though: https://archive.org/details/elements_202002
I have never downloaded anything from archive org. Do you think it is safe to download from here?

I've used this application for PhotoShopping for years. There are lots of downloadable plugins and it's freeware. The author has agreed to have his application sold in Microsoft Store, but you can still download it for free.

Another consideration is Gimp. It's a lot more resource hungry, but it is also more fully featured.

Yes I am sure of getting one of these.
I won't be able to use this one because it requires Net Framework 4.7.2 and Widows XP can take only Net 4.0.3. Thank you.
I am not really into photo work and my needs are very basic. Mainly to change colour intensity and sharpness (focus?). Could you please tell me how user friendly this is for a novice. Portability of this is a big advantage for me :)

You can use Paint.net just download it from old versions. I used it back when I was still running XP.

There is something wrong with oldapps web site. I am taken to the download page and then I get a message in my browser: Error 523, Origin is unreachable, Browser and Cloudflare working, downloadoldapps Host Error.

About a month ago the same thing happened during a number of attempts, when I tried to download something else. The problem appears to have been there for sometime.

For information, I could reach the link in post 10 using Opera. I'm kinda glad that Sophocles mentioned paint.net. I forgot I had it installed.

Have you tried a little PhotoShopping with it? It does a really great job and is great for getting into trouble when you start Shopping other people's images.

No. The only reason I got it is because I needed to crop a round photo and it was the only app I could find that could do that. It wasn't easy but it worked.

Then you've barely tapped into the mischief that can be had with Paint.net. :D

My apology, I just checked the link I left and see that it's broken. Some sites go out of their way to prevent links to their sites from other sites to save on bandwidth. Many sites do it so that their site isn't used by other sites to increase their position on Google searches.

AllXPsoft.com is a good place to search for any application you might need. Here is another link that won't connect you to the download, but will get you most of the way there. If you have any problems then let me know and I will find a way to host and provide a link to the damn thing for you.:D

Thank you for this. I am saving the link to this place.

It is very kind of you to stay with me on this. AllXPsoft.com either gives me a download of version 4.0.19 or redirects me to the Paint.Net download page that gives me the latest version 4.2.14

Sadly I doubt that you can use 4.2.14, although I've never tried it on XP. A point of interest is that oldversions.com links now working, I just downloaded version 3.36. So there's always that.
