Hello I have had my Xbox for about six months and now I think it’s about time for me to get a chip or a soft mode to backup my games, play backups + emulator and etc so I have a few question to ask before making this move. Mod-chip or soft-mod? Is the soft-mod as good as a mod-chip (can a soft-mod play backups, and make backup games, play emulators support bigger HDD) is there any point in getting a mod chip or is the soft-mod limited. Also what is needed to soft-mod do I need a chipped Xbox to soft-mod a new Xbox. If a chip is better and needed which mod-chip is a better option; DuoX 2 Cromwell/FlashBios Edition or Xecuter 2.6 CE or the Aladdin Xeno FX (I need to be able to backup my games, play backups + emulator and support bigger HDD and can prepare HDDs for Xbox) soldering is not an issue. Thanks in advance for any help
ModChips are the safest option because you can always recover them if they go wrong, however, Softmods are easy to install, do exactly the same thing as the Hardmod and are free!
well i install mods to boxes and Playstations so naturally i always recommend chips, they are much more worry free, if you screw up something they are a breeze to get back in working order where a softmod isn't. the Xecuter X3ce is the best chip IMO and out of the close to 300 boxes I've modded thats the chip in 80% of them. kc
I Hardmodded my Xbox, and I thin it's better than SoftMod. The thing is that if you screw up on anything on your xbox with a softmod, you have to start completely over, but with a Hardmod, you can fix the problem. I would go with the Hardmod, and would prefer getting the Xecuter 3 CE chip. I got the solderless one and it works great, but if you want to go a little cheaper, go with the solder one.
I too would go with the hard mod, my brother uses the executor and I use the xenium chip, and we're both very happy with em. he got the solderless adapter, and it does get a little loose every once in a while requiring him to adjust it a little bit.
hey guys, i'm also thinkin of hard moddin my xbox myself. decided on gettin the Xecuter 2.6 CE Mod Chip & Xapter, read through the installation instructions thougherly and it seems pretty straight 4ward on how 2 do it. but my question is.. is that all i need to buy/download or is there software i need to install 2 for the 'dashboard' etc etc?? cheers
go with the X3ce, not the 2.6 and if you have even minimal soldering skills that's all that is required to do an XBOX installation so go that route rather then the Xapter, the Xapter works great but they do get loose over time and require that the box be taken apart and tightened up. the only thing you'll need to download is the X3294 BIOS, your MS dashboard will work as is and you can also install another dashboard if you want to play off the harddrive and I'd recommend XBMC myself, it's hard to beat. the X3 Live can be then configured to default boot the XBMC dash and you can also still boot the MS dash with the chip off/disabled. kc
I'm going to second what KC36330 said, my brother has the xapter and it does get loose all the time. I soldered mine on and haven't had a single problem with it. search these forums for xbins to find out how to download everything else you're going to need/want. I recommend the avalaunch dashboard, but there are a few others you can use such as evox, unleash, and even XBMC. if you're not used to soldering, practice on some old already broken electronics before you even touch the xbox, you'll be glad you did. You can pick up a decent iron for less than $10 at radio shack or a similar place. good luck
