Have you setup a DHCP server?

Why not just use a static address?

it dosent even say dhcp it has a blank area but i can put it on static but i dont really know how to use it do i need to put it the same ip as the computer because ive already tried that and it still dont work and i think the computer might be dhcp i dont really know much bout this it was working before we got the new computer and before we changed our servers over

I'm running Vista without issues! However I'm using Static addresses right across my network!

What happens when you assign a static address? Can you ping?

i tried static but i dont think it worked but we have nortans antivirus 2007 would that be blocking it out because we dont know any other antivirus software to use for vista maybe you could suggest to use if nortans is the problem and i dont know wat ping means im sorta new to some of this stuff.

You can "ping" an address (think of it like a submarines sonar) on the network to check if the connection is alive.

From within 'cmd' you can do this...
