it actually encodes , combines and authorises . but just before finalise , it goes to burn . buffers ok then at actual burn , the error message write protected comes up . as i say not always but i find it unusual when i downloaded a tv show which was write protected

"Write protected" not the same with "Copy protected". You don't get that error because the file has encryption(if it did, you wouldn't be able to convert it...whatever). The "write protected", has something to do with the drive or the media you use.
Is your firmware up to date?
    What discs do you use?
