I'm thinking about buying an LG LRY-517 and I'd appreciate any positive or negative comments on this unit. I would use it to convert some VHS to DVD and to burn DVD's from my Direct TV DVR. Thanks.
I just bought a LG LRY-517 mid August. Now it is the end of September and the thing has quit working. It will play a DVD and the on screen menu works. But the tuner or VHS movies do not display correctly. It shows like 4 images on the TV. So at this point I would have to say that I do not recommend this unit.
I bought one a few weeks ago and I dubbed about 25 DVD's from VHS tapes and it quit recognizing blank DVD's and either would not format them or finalize them. It "said" it was from the wrong region. I tried another brand DVD and got the same result. I never, ever buy extended warranties but did on this one--- thank God. I love the things it is capable of doing; especially playing MP-3 or showing digital pictures from memory cards. I'll let the forum know how the new unit performs.
