Okay i softmodded my friends xbox. He played live. The xbox said it was updating the dashboard, i think. That is what he told me. The unleashx dash didn't show up. So i put mechassault in and tried to un-install the softmod and install it again. That didn't work. My friend deleted some files and now there isn't a ms dashboard, or an unleashx dash. Whenever i start a game, error 16 shows. i know what error 16 is, but i don't know how to fix it. I can't ftp, or load a game. What do i do?
you need a modchip or you need to hotswap. If you choose to hotswap, then you need to change the error by doing this. Try to disconnect IDE cable from xbox hdd just before it goes to error 16. You can also try to boot up xbox with an original game inside the dvd drive to see if microsoft logo shows up.
Okay i tried hotswapping today and it didn't work. The computer didn't read the hard drive. What should i do now?
you have to have a certain program for the PC to read the drive use this and that should make it read the drive
that's the old link for xbox-tribe.. You need to be a member there to download anyway. The programs you need are either fatXplorer..360explorer or xboxhdm. Before you go to all that trouble have you tried the halo2 fix? Error 16 is very common. It's been chewed over so many times on these forums that theres not much point answering the question again. Look for TheReturn or the other regulars in the xbox forums.. In the sigs these members have links to the software you need. a clue for you..unplug the dvd drive from the ide cable and boot..the xbox will go to error 12..the drive is then unlocked. Make the hdm cd as per the instructions in the guide included. Put the xbox in reach of the pc you will be using..Unplug xbox dvd drive and boot the xbox..wait for error 12 and then swap the hdd ide cable for one from your pc. Just follow the guide that comes with hdm and restore your drive to stock. Then you will need to softmod it again because usually trying to repair a broken softmod is more trouble than it is worth.
I have no idea what the halo 2 fix is.. but i've tryed unplugging the dvd drive. The computer reads the hard drive, but xplorer360 wont read it. I don't know why. When i dis-connect the hard drive from the computer, i refresh it and it doesn't show so i know its the hard drive. I don't know what to do. Could you explain the halo 2 fix?
If it runs games from cold boot you load halo 2 and go to live settings.. Then if it detects a broken dash it will update it. Works about 50% of the time. No internet connection needed. I have successfully used the trick many times on softmods which have broken to error 16 after somebody has used slayers to try a repair. If 360 explorer isn't working you really need to try xboxhdm, and make sure you are getting the drive to unlock. The pc bios should report the size and make of the drive even if it's locked. (a fairly modern bios should even be able to tell you the drive status)
Cool i will try that. I've been working on this xbox for 2 weeks or something like that and i would like to fix it for the kid that i'm fixing it for. I really don't know how to make the boot disk for xboxhdm or whatever it is. I'm reading, but don't have that much time left at all. BUt i'll try the halo 2 thing and let you know if it works.
