Forgive me, I have spent a few days off and on trying to sift through what's here and I think I have info I need, but I want to run this by you peeps. I have a sony trv-520 which I am feeding into my computer through the 4 pin to 4 pin firewire. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro (7?) to capture the video. It saves it as an avi which is (i think) 720x something. I have the main concept encoder. How do I install that into premiere so it uses that? Can I just run it standalone and encode the project's avi file? Or should I use the tmpegenc program and author the dvd? Does it burn the dvd? Which is more universal, dvd-r or dvd+r? Thanks in advance.
All you need to do is encode the AVI file you captured with Premier with the MainConcept Encoder... You can also use the MainConcept Encoder to Capture to AVI or directly to Mpeg2 for DVD.... After you have encoded your AVI file to Mpeg2/DVD you need to use a DVD authoring program to add menu"s and Chapters and to burn the DVD.... Adobe premier pro also has a Built in Mpeg encoder but the MainConcept one is better.... At this point it really doesn"t matter which DVD format you use because all DVD players play Both formats and most all Burners Burn both formats, DVD-R"s are a Bit cheaper and are slightly more compatible with more DVD Players but DVD+R"s have a Higher Burn Speed.......Cheers
Thanks Minion! I was able to take the avi file I captured and pumped it through mainconcept encoder. I then used tempegenc author 1.5 to create the menus and then it passed me to some other program to burn the dvd. It took 5 hours or so to burn 2.1 gig onto the dvd! Is that normal? It didn't allow me to set the burn speed, it just said "maximum". My burner is the 708a Sony with the latest firmware, but the disks are 4x. Although I have burned to them at 8x when using dvdshrink... Should I have used nero instead to burn it? It seemed like it was writing a small chunk and then verifying, possible taking more time? So I can capture with the mainconcept encoder instead of premiere thus going right to mpeg2? Also, when I view the movie with powerdvd, it goes right to the first scene and doesn't show me the menu. I can go to the menu though and then pick the chapter. I haven't tried it yet in a home dvd player yet to see if it works and if it just starts playing the dvd. When you capture from hi8/dig8, the file IS an avi? Or does Premiere encode it as an avi? Can premiere capture it as mpeg2 or should I continue capturing it as avi and converting to mpeg2 with mainconcept? Thanks!
Hi, It should Not take 4 hours to author and Burn the DVD...It should take maybe at the Most 20 minutes to write the video_TS folder to your hard drive and then 15-45 minutes to burn the DVD...Yes you can use something else to do the Burning, You can use "Nero" to burn the "Video_TS" folder to DVD-R in DVD Video Mode, There might be some sort of Bug with Tmpgenc DVD author"s Burning module so try it with nero and it should be faster.... And Yes you can capture with the MainConcept encoder and Capture directly to Mpeg1/2 or AVI but the quality will not be as good as captureing to AVI useing something like the HuffYUV Codec and then Encodeing the File to AVI but it will be faster so I suppose you can try it and if the quality is good enough you can use it....Premier does not have this Feature....Cheers
