I brought a laptop and It didn't come with a windows xp disk, instead of buying one do you know where I can download it from the internet for free or do I have to pay for it?

The person that sold you your laptop has an obligation to give you your Windows XP disk if you have paid for it. If not , then you must buy one.

What Jeanc is asking is whether you paid for it originally with the computer. In other words, was there a part of the receipt you had that said 'windows xp' on it? If there is then you have to get in contact with the retailer who sold it to you and get a disc.
If not, then what they did is just install one of their versions, and you're right, you'll have to go out and purchase it.

Tigerdirect is having a sale on it right now I think.
