I/O device error

hi i just happen to have a problem with my computer toshiba satellite
inly for the past 2 weeks i cannot read any cd rom, dvd or else, when i put in in my internal disc reader
it says I/O device error, when i try to click on the d:, but there is a cd inside, that i want to read!so i guess it doens't work at all
can anyone help me fix , this?
i thought about buying a new internal disc??
my disc is a dvd multi recorder, disc re writable

hi, thank you for your rely but unfortunately i have tried those things already. It only happens when i try to read CDR's or CDRW's

 

yeah same here got the same problem and that does not help.
My prob is with a MATSHITA UJ-820D Sony Vaio
