thank you very much! i have 1 problem. i need the audio codec to be AAC-LC audio codec. So i think my problem is not the video codec it is the audio codec. So do you know i way i can make it aac lc?
i have tried hand brake before but it didnt work. When i moved it into the zune library it stiall had to convert and that converting failed.
Did you use the proper resolution/bitrate? If any is higher than what your player will support, it will not work. What exactly is the eroor that you get? Here are some other free programs that will encode to H.264: http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/20681.cfm
http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/zunehd/zunehd32/techspecs.htm it says h.264 1280 X 720. my video is 1280 X 544

no read the right side. Video support Windows Media Video (WMV) (.wmv); Main and Simple Profile, CBR or VBR, up to 10.0 Mbps peak video bit rate; 720 pixels x 480 pixels up to 30 frames per second (or 720 pixels x 576 pixels up to 25 frames per second); Advanced profile up to L2, 1280 pixels x 720 pixels up to 30 frames per second, CBR or VBR, up to 14.0 Mbps peak video bitrate;Zune software will transcode HD WMV files above stated capabilities at device sync MPEG-4 (MP4/M4V) (.mp4) Part 2 video3; Simple Profile up to 4.0 Mbps peak video bit rate; 720 pixels x 480 pixels up to 30 frames per second (or 720 pixels x 576 pixels up to 25 frames per second); Zune software will transcode HD MPEG-4 files at device sync H.264 video3; Baseline Profile + bframes, up to 10 Mbps peak video bit rate; 720 pixels x 480 pixels up to 30 frames per second (or 720 pixels x 576 pixels up to 25 frames per second);1280 pixels x 720 pixels up to 30 frames per second, up to level 3.1 and 14.0 Mbps peak video bitrate; Zune software will transcode HD WMV files above the stated capabilities at device sync DVR-MS4; Zune software will transcode at time of sync
Drag the file into mediainfo and look at view/text for the details. See how it compares to the capabilities of the device. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Info.htm I understand what you're saying, re: the info you posted. However, the native screen is apparently 480*272 and all programs played will only be displayed at that res. (by encoding it specially for the Zune, as I did for my son's Creative Zen, it saves a lot of space in the device.) If you can't see anything that explains it in Mediainfo, I would find a Zune-specific discussion group. You're more likely to find someone who's been there, done that.

When i try to play it in quicktime i get some weird audio. if i turn the valume up i can hear sound but it sounds like it is in slow mo.
Instead of Handbrake, try this software(free): http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ You can try and convert just the audio if you like, and see if the audio is the problem, or the entire original file to a new mp4. Choose AAC_Low for audio codec;or, just convert it to a WMV:
According to the techspecs, up to level 3.1 is supported. In the mediainfo readout, the video is encoded at high, level 4.1. Perhaps this is the issue.
