A while back Niobis helped me out with a virus and everything was fine, about a 3 weeks ago or so, i started to notice the computer would lag alot at startup and when i first connected to the internet. The problem got worse an worse. I ran AVG and it would find trackign cookies but nothing major, today I ran adaware and it found win32.trojandownloader.zlob adaware quaranteed it, but i deleted it anywyas along with some trackign cookies. I ran hijackthis and had it analized and one of the analizers ofund a few things which i also fixed. i ahve since restarted the computer and its still lagging a bit at startup and when i first connect to the internet, but then after about a minute or so it speeds up an works as good as new, i just wanted to post my hijck log here to see if anyone sees anything the analizer missed. I ran adaware, avg and norton on safe mode with system restore off an they found nothing else. here is my log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA) Scan saved at 10:11:58 PM, on 3/20/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\MI6841~1\MSSQL\binn\sqlservr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSSearch\Bin\mssearch.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb09.exe C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hphmon05.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnf.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Ahead\NEROPH~1\data\Xtras\mssysmgr.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.1128.5462\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\sqlmangr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Console\NSCSRVCE.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\taskmgr.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Boom\Desktop\HiJackThis_v2.0.0.0.exe R0 - rescaning the log here: http://hjt.networktechs.com/ its still showing: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe which the analyzer is describing as "coolwebsearch ctfmon32 parasite variant" ive tried to fix it 3 times through hijack and its still apearing when i restart and run hijack again, is there anyway of removing this manually?
Your log is clean. That file you are trying to fix is a legit Microsoft file. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282599 You shouldn't use auto analyzers. They are very prone to spitting out wrong information.
hmm...ok fair enough, but my computer is still lagging. the svchost.exe eats up all of my CPU. As soon as i conenct to the internet it starts to lag and will be at 90 to 100% cpu and freeze up, after about 2 minutes it will start to work fine, then it will freeze up again. when i disable the svchost.exe thats using up the CPU, the computer unfreezes but then i cant log on to the internet, so im assuming this is a process needed to be on the internet. I read on another forum that windows xp SP2 has had problems with high CPU usage and that microsoft has a hotfix for it, but you have to contact microsoft for it. Im having a friend come over to reformat the computer anyways. I was just curious if it was a virus or not.
