Ok, i have IBM Deskstars, one DTLA... drive and one IC35... drive. Both of these are prone to the "click of death" drive head problem. The DTLA drive is already dead, but the IC35 is not, there are no signs of this click, but the controller chip on the drive is messed up; a few of the IDE pins are either bent or just broken off. My question is, is it possible to transplant the DTLA chip to the IC35 drive and expect it to work or will it just corrupt the data on the IC35 drive? (I did some research, and the DTLA drive has the disk head problem, not the NVRAM problem, so the chip itself is not corrupt). If it is not possible to interchange these chips, are there any other options? It is only the IDE interface pins that are broken, the rest of the board is intact (cant really solder it)
