I copied a DVD movie that I own with ICOPYDVD2 and DVD43,but it only plays in my computer. It will not play on DVD's like you say. Did I do something wrong? Is there a special setting that must be entered so it is compatible. I got the DVD Decrypter and was able to copy and play in all, computer and DVD players. I still would like to use ICOPYDVD2 and DVD43, what's the trick?

Maybe your media isn't compatible with you stand alone dvd deck? For example, mine will only play DVD-R, not DVD+R. Do you get an error message when you try it on your stand alone deck?

What brand media are you using? This is also a symptom of low-grade media.

I am sure it's not a media problem. I can dupe DVD's successfuly and play them in my DVD player when I use the DVD Decrypter. The only limitation with Decrypter is the size of the DVD to be copied it has to fit on the blank one, that's the reason I would like to use CopyDVD2, because it will compress to fit the blank. My question was if there was a specific procedure or command after or before starting to duplicate so that it will be DVD player compatible. My DVD player can read all that stuff DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-ROM, etc.

What are your steps after using DeCrypter?

Also, the reason I asked what brand media you are using is because not all media "is created equal." It doesn't matter that your stand-alone can read every format under the sun if you started off with low-grade media to begin with. So, what brand media?

I am using Imation DVD-R, but if it was the media, I would not have been able to successfuly back up DVD with decrypter and play on my DVD and computer.

There are no steps after. Go to mode, select ISO read, wait for it to copy then select ISO write, select enter and that's it. A perfectly good DVD I can use in my two DVD players and computer. At first I was told that my DVD was not compatible, so I went and bought a new one that could read all formats and when I asked the salesman why this new one wouldn't read my DVD he said that I didn't "finalize" it, but was vague about details. I have not had any problems with decrypter, a free program, and ICOPYDVD2 which was not free along with DVD43 does not seem to do the job as well.

I see, so you are running a DVD 5 (that doesn't need any compression)through DeCrypter. DVDCopy2 is pretty much straight forward. I certainly don't know of any secret settings.

What I do believe is that you have a media problem, but lets eliminate everything else. Download and install Nero InfoTools: http://www.nero.com/en/631940826989307.html

We will first check the ASPI, DMA, and Firmware Version. Please supply this info along with your drive Mfgr and model.

Hi zevahc1, Welcome to our little Club -

I couldn't help but notice your statement and while sounding pretty good to new comers, it' has no basis at all in the world of DVD backups.

Because 1 disc or 10 discs work does not mean those discs are any good for backups. In our world, our PC's work harder and require more of our resources than anything else we ask our PC's to do - the discs we use must be of the best in dye application and quality control and must be on an above average composite disc.
Sorry but Imitation discs aren't them (lol).

Sit down for a minute there little buddy and let's talk about some DVD media :)

Let’s just take Memorex as an example, figures as high as 50% coasters have been reported (One member bought a stack of 50 and got 23 good burns.), not what I would call an impressive record. There are 4 different companies that manufacture Memorex BTW and product quality varies widely as you might imagine. Easy to see now why the quality of a big-named company can’t be trusted - “ Who’s making your Memorex tonight ?” Note: Memorex in the singles, 5 or 10 pack, as a rule, cause less problem than those Memorex sold in bulk BUT they still aren't recommended for DVD backups.

Is it just Memorex ? No ! I just used Memorex as an example. Fuji, Imitation, Sony, TDK, Orange Pack and many Ritek and Verbatim discs aren’t suitable as a DVD backup media – that’s why we are specific in the type of media we are recommending.

    1. * Cheap media freezes, skips, pixelats and may refuse to be recognized or may not be played :-(
Besides "Freezing", "skips" and pixelations, many times you’ll get a “Cyclic Redundancy error” or an "I/O error". This message can mean that your discs are scratched or dirty, it can also mean that your burner won’t accept your “cheap” media :-(
Another problem which “pops up” is a “*Power Calibration Error”. This can stop you right in your tracks and most often is caused by, Yep, you guessed it, inexpensive media.
*A “Power Calibration Error” can also be attributed to the Optical Components of a DVD Writer, though this isn’t usually the case. Trying to shut down your software and ejecting your DVD then restarting your program and re-inserting the same media recently cleaned has been known to help.

Inexpensive media or even average media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way !

    2. A good grade, Hi-quality media is needed for DVD reproduction !
“Branded” Ritek G04's or Branded Verbatim are what we’re looking for OR any media boasting “Advanced Metal AZO.” – BUT it MUST SAY “METAL” AZO !, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are sometimes a bit “pricey” they are acceptable.
    Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 starting at about a 1/2 dollar($ .50 USD) a disc -
Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap or even average discs and good copies from 3 Branded Verbatim discs or 3 “Branded” Ritek G04 discs - which ones then will you say are too expensive ? The 3 “Cheapo’s with no movie backup OR, the 3 recommended discs with a perfect backup on each disc ?

Bear in mind, Memorex, Fuji, Imitation, Sony, TDK, Orange Pack and others are quite good for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don’t work well for DVD backups. Even DataSafe G04’s made by Ritek have been reported as an inferior quality media and are evoking that “Oh no, I shouldn’t have gotten those.”
Remember, for DVD backups, purchasing inexpensive media or even average media is a gamble, some people win, the majority of people lose, varying amounts but, they still lose :-(

Let's try the right media for the job - just buy a 5 pack of what we recommend that will settle it once and for all - Don’t cheat though, buy the EXACT media we recommended –

Using good grade media can guarantee you one thing to an absolute certainty; it surely cannot hurt.

BTW, In an effort to clear the air, when I speak of "Cheap" or "Inexpensive" media, I'm not referring to the price you pay at the counter - I'm referring to the type of composite some manufactures use, their method of dye application and the lack of OR the poor quality control used during manufacturing. when I say "Branded" that means that when you pick up a disc in your hand, it says "Ritek" or "Verbatim" on the disc itself. The monetary cost of the media we recommend many times is cheaper than that you are buying now.

    cheers,

    Pete

    PS
FAIR WARNING. . . Using that "Cheap" media, your backups may not last all that long -

One thing I haven't addressed is the life of a backup made on an "el cheapo" disc. We all know that data, music and video backups on CD's and DVD's will last forever, well, if not forever for at least 100 yrs or so - That's what we've read and that's why we backup our treasures to disc, so that they'll be safe. "BLAaaaT" (the bone chilling sound of an emergency air horn), Wrong, Dead Wrong ! Don't throw the originals away, you may very well need them. Your video camera tapes and family picture CD's and DVD's, may not be there the next time you want to look at them. "Point of fact," inferior discs have a tendency to "Break down]" in time. In a very short time, we're talking disc breakdown in less than a single year, in as little as 6 to 8 months.

    Important, please read -

Now perhaps you’ll see why my buddy Doc409 and joedrumma suggested a possibility of a media problem right from the start –

There’s one thing we’ve learned NOT to say, -

Not to worry Good Guy, when you’ve been here for a while, as the “Master” once said, “It shall all become clear to you in time, Grasshopper.”

Soooo, let’s give it a try shall we ? The right stuff for the right job :)

    Good show,

    Pete

Meanwhile, stick with de "Doc" and check your ASPI layer, your Firmware upgrades and your DMA /PIO settings AND while you’re at it, why not check for all your Windows updates and driver updates. You’d be surprised how many pple don’t bother to even defrag their system much less check for critical updates – lol, what a world, Huh ?

    Cheers zevahc1,

    Pete

    Pete,

I'm as green as they come on this board, but the first thing I learned was about media. I'm glad to say that I followed the 'media advice' and I am now the proud owner of 100 Ritek Ridata G04's. And the best part is that the Riteks were less expensive to buy online than the Memorex spindle I got locally at Office Max!

@ zevah1 ... the best prices on Ritek G04's right now is www.meritline.com if you are USA. We can still give your 'puter a checkup before you get the media if you want to.

    @ ScubaPete ... Thanks.

I use ICOPYDVDs2 with DVD43 and playback on my Sony 400 series DVD player seems to be the best with "good" media also. Since my writer is a +R format, I can't use the G04's, however, using the "BeAll" media from Meritline.com (per their reccomendation) has served me very well. Zero coasters and 100% playback rate in ALL of my family's 4 DVD players!

By the way, I totally agree that media is everything and that Imation is junk!

    joedrumma,

You be da Man Joe, Congrats - I'm truly glad to meet you - You have no idea how many Newbies we have that come here thinking that it's all the bloody same - It's good to meet someone who has done their homework :)

    zevahc1,

Ya done a good thing there, you won't be sorry :)

Careful there catfreak, BeAll is only on the "Fair List." There have been some issues with BeAll as of late :(

As far as the +R is concerned, I had trouble with my NEC burner with -R media so I started using +R media for about 90% of my burning. Ridata is outstanding for that. It has the G04 dye and the only coasters I have had are the ones made by my own stupidity (i.e. trying to fry at a zillion miles an hour).

    Give them a try at meritline.com :D)

    cheers,

    Pete

BTW Gentlemen, I'd like to Welcome all of you to our little Club here at A/D - We're glad to have you aboard :)

    Hello Pete ...
I have tried the Ridata and they play well in the wife's player and in mine. The problem seems to be playing them in the grandkids Cyberhome deck. I know it's a cheepie but they destroy decks faster than I can buy them so I don't like spending more than $30 on their players. Anyway the Cyberhome doesn't seem to like Ridata discs, and since most of the backups go upstairs to the grandkids, well what can I say?

You said that there have been "issues" with the BeAll discs ... and those issues might be? The BeAlls are made by Samsung and I was under the impression that they might last a while. I really haven't had any problems.

However, Pete, you DO have a ton of knowledge on the subject, so maybe next time I'll try the Ridatas again, since I only tried a sampling (10) and had 4 not work in the kids machine. I did think that this was a pretty high number to fail though ...

I recently bought and installed ICopyDVDs2 and then downloaded DVD43free software which removes css decryptions on DVD's. However, I can't burn any DVD's. The software reads the DVD just fine but when I put in a DVD+R so it can write the DVD it keeps popping up the message: error in writing disk. If someone could help me figure out the problem I'd appreciate it. Is it a problem with the setting. I have it set for widescreen, english, no subtitles, temp path: C:/My Downloads. The entire disk option isn't checked though because I don't want the special features. I have around 40Gb of free Hard Disk Space and Windows XP home edition.

!st, Difficulty in writing to the outside of the disc (Can be overcome by setting max. size to 4200MB.)
2nd. Reported problems with uneven dye application especially when purchased in quantities. i.e. 50, 100 spindle packs.
3rd reports that some are showing up made by sub-contractors - use this to check your discs -

    http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

As far as Cyberhome is concerned, That's what I have to play DVD's on my 65" TV. All the discs I play on mine are Ridata, never had problem one - ??????

I don't have an explanation. I got this player this past November - maybe it's a newer one ??

    A mystery !

    "P"

Hi mcgowang, Welcome to our little Club -

I suggest that you read the thread you just posted to (THIS THREAD) - It sounds like a classic case of poor media -

    Other possibilities: your Basics :)

Let's go over your basics, Okie, Dokie, mcgowang ?

For that we'll have to turn on the TV to "The Wide Warped World of Sports," already in progress :)

First, to our sports announcer "ScubaPete" at the local ball field -

Hi folks, nice of you to join us - (Hey ball boy, gimme anudder beer, "K" ?) "Sorry ?" "Whad ya shay ?" "Ohhh, Yea, shorry, Ball PERSON !" - - "Yes, Mamm."

Huuuuummm, yea, well -- What was I shayin ? Ooohhh yea, -

First up to bat this inning, our all star, ASPI - let's check his record, He likes to sandwich himself between the software and the burner, allowing fast and precise communication and smooth performance.

First we see if he'll join the lineup via Adaptec ASPI layer OR Nero ASPI.

Sometimes he's reluctant to join the team so we may have to "Force" him by using "Force ASPI."

We'll find all of those links here -

    http://cd-rw.org/articles/archive/aspisetup.cfm

Once we've made him join, it's good to check on him, here's a good observation tool for just that player -

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...nguage=English+US&filekey=aspichk.exe&sess=no

Taking a short break while a fan streaks the field, we're switching you to the All World Golf Tournament and ScubaPete 2 at the clubhouse -

(hey) "High Ball," I mean Hi ya'all, StupidPete, I mean ScubaPete 2 for phase two -

We'll be going out to the links (when I get anudder rink) to see how our Firmware is for our burner of choice -

The Firmware, as we might remember, is our burner's tutor, making sure all educational requirements are met.

Let's head over the library and see where our firmware should be -

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

We'll check our firmware with this little probe -

At the bottom of the page look for "What's my firmware? - Try this little tool I found," Download this tool and check out your Firmware's health (education wise).

    http://flashman.rpc-1.com/

If you haven't gotten the proper firmware - back you go to get your upgrade - You cannot be without it -

Time to take a break from our sports broadcast and transfer you back to ScubaPete at the bar, . . . Huuuuummmm, ScubaPete, I say, ScubaPete . . . has anyone seen ScubaPete what, . . , wha . . he's under the wha . .

Sorry Ladies and Gentlemen, ScubaPete seems to be under the, ahhhhhh, the . . . (Psssst, get you feet offin da ScubaPete's head, he won't be on the floor all nite . .

Someone ship him back to A/D, alrighty ?

Well folks, we've lost our signal but we hope you can see your drive now and that it can see all it needs too -

Time to turn off the TB, I mean the TV before ScubaPete comes too (I'm sorry) until he wakes up - -

    cheers -

    Hey ScubaPete,
I don't really understand anything you just wrote. I'm not sure what you mean by media either. Are you talking about the DVD+R's I bought or the icopydvd2 software or dvd43free. I just got the program to burn American Flyers but it has the case where you fold the lip over to close it. I hope you know what I'm talking about because I don't know how else to describe it. I've only seen two types of cases so hopefully you do. The DVD's that just snap shut like The Bourne Identity, and Romeo & Juliet won't burn. If you could be really clear and explicit in your advice I'd appreciate. i don't know anything about computers really so please spell things out like you would to novice. Thanks for your help.
